The Democrats face the only decisions because—in headlines—only the Democrats have agency in the federal government, even when they have no majorities and hold virtually no formal power.

The government runs out of funding Friday at midnight, leaving Democrats to decide whether to help Republicans pass a bill to avoid a shutdown or block the bill and be blamed for triggering one.

No dilemma.
They don't have the votes.
They can't negotiate because they burned Dems so many times.
Them chickens coming home to roost.
And those 10 because the Govt might not ever open up again if Ds help shutdown and the end is will help Republicans blame shutdown on Ds. So all their chaos and destruction has a new scapegoat
Are you not aware of how basic civics works or that the same Republican Party that is a loyal cult to Donald Trump controls both houses?
They control everything, they're killing subpoena votes and everything.
But none of this makes your plan to create a giant Govt shutdown black hole a good idea.
Having your finger prints on creating a Govt shutdown black hole is DEFINITELY a losing strategy for Democrats right now.
It's so obvious that it was a 2 terrible options choice but they made the least bad one.
This isn't the Dems' problem.
Dems do NOT control the #Senate. If the bill doesn't pass, it's because there's no mandate for Repubs to govern partisanly. If it passes, then Dems actually empowered the GOP to govern without compromising. Dems will have even less effect on legislature for the next 2 years.
Is it only Elon who has agency anymore?
Plus I take issue with the headline. This isn't a "major dilemma." Of *course* they're going to decline to sign off on Trump's insane CR. They're in a shitty spot, but still.
when Republicans put forward
a bill that cannot be passed.
I hope the Dems stand strong. The economy is already failing the pain of a shut down may force republicans to govern rather than bully. Worth the pain
Democrats care about governance, Republicans care only about power
Republicans own the government - they bought it, now they can break it
@indivisible.org
This is the stupidest headline I've ever seen.
This is the Democrats' issue???????

Knowing that, channel some of that dark Brandon energy and shut it down until a deal that helps your people is on the table.
Congressional GOP has been corrupted by the Musk/Trump administration
Congressional Dems are left to either surrender to these forces or to stand and defend the American people.

Two: "only the Democrats have agency in the federal government"
That beverage comes straight out of the @proleftpodcast.bsky.social media criticism punch bowl.
And I'm sure @driftglass.bsky.social has a post on his blog about it that I haven't read.

Let me make this clear.
Any Senator that votes to allow cloture or votes to pass this CR that gives more power to Elon and Trump to shutdown more of the gov will not get my support in future elections.
I'm 70 on SS, I don't have much but will fight you.
You have power. Act like it!
