I just signed the petition to to demand the Government tax the super rich to rebuild our NHS, schools, and other public services. Will you sign too? you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/pr...

I know coverage of disability benefits can be very distressing. So, I’ve worked with colleagues to make a range of support visible on The Guardian’s site. If you click on a relevant news story, you’ll see a “drop box” of signposted mental health help as well as benefits advice.

"The former Bank of England deputy governor Charlie Bean has warned the chancellor against making kneejerk cuts in next week’s spring statement to try to hit fiscal targets that are five years away." An important reminder that cuts aren't the consensus. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

💧 Our privatised, for-profit water system is broken. But we have a chance to fix it. On 28 March, @labourlewis.bsky.social’s Water Bill will be debated in Parliament—to give the public a say on who should own our water. 📝 Tell your MP to attend: actionnetwork.org/letters/ask-... #OurWaterOurWay

We're in London today with a big old bus to tell our Govt this country cannot afford cuts. Instead they should tax us, the super rich. A 2% wealth tax alone could raise up to £460mln a week. @Keir_starmer - invest in a fairer economy. Patriotic Millionaires say Tax Our Wealth

At the heart of every attack on disability benefits is the myth disabled people “get perks”: a free car, loads of cash, a life off work. It misrepresents the reality of disability, whilst exploiting low wages and high living costs to make the public envy people in daily pain.

Exactly 🔥

Labour MP Clive Lewis, "If it means cuts for people using the benefits system, it's something I would, with a heavy heart, not be able to follow through on" Well said @labourlewis.bsky.social this is what decency and integrity looks like 👏

🔥🔥

Excellent piece from @lottieelton.bsky.social on what the £15 billion a windfall tax on bank profits could pay for. From reinstating the universal winter fuel allowance, 15 times over, to putting the entire cabinet up in a luxury hotel for 67 years 🏨 ⤵️ www.bigissue.com/news/social-...

1970 on a balmy Sunday, watching a very stoned 'furry freak bro' rowing by the island playing Let it Bleed, jerkily on a battery hi-fi. Small crowd gathered waiting for the inevitable. He landed 2 share a spliff and in he went (Happy Days - for me): www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Brick Lane, east London, seen yesterday.

Labour continue to disappoint: www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

We'll commit to a slice 🥧 Happy Pi Day!

Baroness Jones, "It's hard. Labour have only been in for a few months but they've made some terrible mistakes" "Keeping the two child benefit cap" "Pensioners in cold houses" "And the whole sewage thing, the water company thing, a huge blunder" "A few principles might be a good thing"

"Let us screw the public so our owners can get richer" is, I think history shows clearly, the problem not the solution.

Bailouts won't fix the sewage scandal and won't reduce bills. Join me and @GoodLawProject to call on Steve Reed to stop water company greed goodlaw.social/uk6y

Choosing to take money from disabled benefit claimants rather than levy a wealth tax is simply immoral 👇

BREAKING: NHS dental fees are about to go up! Enough is enough: sign the petition to say no to new price hikes, and demand a real plan to fund NHS dentistry: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/sc...

Absolutely @dalevince.com

Green ambitions. UK govt planning to cut funding for GB Energy, the state-owned company set to drive renewable energy. Cut from £28bn to £15bn to £8.3bn to ?? Another win for fossil fuel companies. Manifesto pledge?? How long will Ed Miliband remain in the cabinet?

Reminder: Amazon Blackout—starting tomorrow. Amazon ❌, Whole Foods ❌ off the to-do list!

Appeal Court *very slightly* reduces sentences on some of the 16 peaceful climate protesters, jailed for total of 41 years. This isn’t justice. People desperate for climate action to save lives treated like organised criminals, while big oil & gas get away with ecocide @defendourjuries.bsky.social

Labour's promise to build 1.5m new homes is already sunk. Because it's terrified of state intervention and it's terrified of free movement it's going to leave another generation crammed into shoddy and overpriced rental properties. on.ft.com/3DpzKMj

The government is cracking down on benefit fraud by spying on claimants' bank accounts. But tax fraud is much bigger. Prof Richard Murphy shows how to crack down on tax dodgers, saving billions. [4-min read] @eastangliabylines.co.uk

Yes, the UK government SHOULD abandon its Carbon Capture and Storage scheme, which a. would cause a net *increase* in emissions b. is unlikely to work c. uses tens of billions that'd be much better spent on genuinely green projects. Let's hope it has seen sense. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

New gas power stations and blue hydrogen plants? This is as bad as coal for the climate—relies on costly, unproven carbon capture—benefiting the fossil fuel giants with £bn in subsidies. Homegrown renewables, which experts say can fully meet our energy needs, is the way to go.

Australian newspaper "The Sun-Herald" opinion piece calls it out. American msm, take notes.

This cause is close to my heart - please sign: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/st...

Unbelievable. Donald Trump has been invited to a state visit to the UK. We should not be rolling out the red carpet to celebrate this man. Agree? Add your name to the petition today: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/no...

The UK's anti-protest laws pre-legitimise far right authoritarianism. Labour must repeal them now. My column today. www.theguardian.com/global/comme...

📢 @dannychambers.bsky.social: “The Climate and Nature Bill enjoyed lively debate in the Commons. Not surprisingly, Conservatives and Reform opposed this bill outright—and disappointingly the government’s actions on climate are not yet matching their past rhetoric.” @hampshirechronicle.bsky.social

Our co-chairs @drtonyosullivan.bsky.social & @drjohnpuntis.bsky.social write here about how this govt is wrong to embrace the private sector to provide the country's healthcare. Read it here 👇 morningstaronline.co.uk/article/nhs-...

🚨Breaking🚨 Sir Stephen Fry calls on Keir Starmer to bring ‘effectively bankrupt’ Thames Water into public ownership. 💧 So that ‘it works for all of us, people and planet.’ 🌎 Agree? Sign our petition. Link in comments 👇🏽 #SirStephenFry #ThamesWater #PublicOwnership

0.1% growth is hardly cause for the govt to pat itself on the back. As our Head of Campaigns told LBC News today: ❌ Deregulation - especially of the banks - won't deliver GDP growth ❌Even when GDP does grow, most of this doesn't trickle down to households

Ever wondered why our politicians don't tax the things they should? www.opendemocracy.net/en/dark-mone...

✍️ The case for reforming council tax Council tax is outdated, unfair, and regressive – it's time to replace it with an income-based system that ensures fairness for all By John Hall @johnfromyorkshire.bsky.social

The latest Corruption Perceptions Index has just come out. Of the 10 least corrupt countries in the world, NONE use FPTP and nearly all use some form of Proportional Representation. We see this over and over again: the world's most successful democracies use PR.
