Elon Musk says that no one has died because he slashed humanitarian aid. I went to South Sudan to check if that's true. It's not. Meet Peter, Achol and Evan, ages 10, 8 and 5. The reckless actions of the world's richest men are killing the world's poorest kids www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

People who know Mahmoud Kahlil wrote letters to the court. At a protest, a Jewish student recalled, when a non-affiliate began shouting antisemitic slogans, Mahmoud "was the first to intervene." "He has committed no crime, nor has advocated for anything that I have not also stood for."

When I said I was worried about Tyranny I meant the government doing mild health insurance reform. I have no problem with them illegally snatching and disappearing people

They are monsters. There is no way around it. It is both dangerously bad foreign policy and it is grotesquely inhumane. The vast majority of Americans don't get it and need to wake up to what is happening here, to how disastrous it is for us and the world, how dangerous it is for our future.

Things are moving quickly, but it looks like these Sen's especially need calls from *constituents* to vote NO on cloture: Angus King (ME) Amy Klobuchar (MN) Jacky Rosen (NV) Brian Schatz (HI) Maggie Hassan (NH) Jeanne Shaheen (NH) Gary Peters (MI) Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121.

This should be a giant, all-caps headline on every outlet, and it should say TRUMP INVOKES SWEEPING WARTIME EMERGENCY POWERS, which is true

The funniest thing about all this is Joe Biden built a "bring back US manufacturing" button and Trump could have just kept pressing it but instead he insisted on smashing the "crash the stock market" button

The institutions of the American economy depend on the institutions of American democracy; rule of law, consistent regulation, stability, and all the rest. That’s what’s being destroyed and that’s what risks the *entire economy. Saying that out loud shouldn’t (and can’t) be a risk

As a teenager, I marched in opposition to the US invasion of Iraq. Millions of others did as well. We were right and nobody today dare argues otherwise. Our President now would have us arrested for activities ‘aligned to’ Saddam Hussein’s regime.

Excellent work here by @ryanenos.bsky.social and Levitsky. www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

I believe, but cannot prove, that a lot of this happened in the first term, but it went uninvestigated and unpunished. It’s clearly, clearly out of control in term two. Huge leveraged trades in advance of Trump announcements etc.

Insightful piece from @peterbakernyt.bsky.social comparing the Trump administration’s recent actions to the early days of Putin’s reign in Russia, which Peter covered nearly 25 years ago. Here’s a gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/26/u...

Musk just lost... checks notes... David Icke

I wrote back in 2022 that if Trump is reelected, democracy will not fail all at once, but in red-state pockets, one step at at a time. Like, say, this place in Idaho. www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/...

Ketamine being blamed for what is obviously stimulant misuse smh

Hear ye, hear ye, herald the dribbling bum Frolick in the frothy foaming of the King’s buttcum

Two of the most significant authoritarian moves by Trump: the Jan 6 pardons and the removal of protection from Mike Pompeo and his aide. They led directly to this.

I understand why these stories exist but it’s important to be clear that he’s not “saving” 16 billion, he’s choosing, personally, without oversight, to wipe out 16 billion dollars of government services to veterans and the disabled and food safety etc etc

Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges. This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go.

In hindsight, Rock and Roll has made a poor foundation for this city

Inflation picked up unexpectedly in January. This was the biggest one-month increase in overall consumer prices since August 2023, and the biggest one-month increase in core prices since April 2023. #NumbersDay

It's hard to believe that humanity is at a place where a headline like this, to our peril, is merely met with a yawn... Earth is now retaining profuse excess heat - the equiavlent of a million nuclear bombs per day - in our climate system. Today’s Berardelli Bonus H/T to @LeonSimons8 Linear trend

I interviewed experts in Mexico about AMLO & Sheinbaum’s communications strategy, and one thing stood out: they command attention, while Biden and Harris ran from it. Daily pressers, populism, direct engagement, culture—why aren’t Democrats doing this?

The Framers foresaw this problem and figured legislators' ambition, self-preservation, and self-respect would drive them to act against a tyrant. The Framers didn't expect a majority of Congress would be cowards and fools who cheered it like pigs celebrating the arrival of the butcher.

In my self-defense classes I focus on how most people are socially conditioned to follow the norms of a civilized, polite society — and there is a MENTAL SHIFT required to use violence to defend from violence. I'm reminded of this while watching our elected officials dithering and delaying. 1/
