Far more complicated. The Big Lie of the Nazis was that they had been "stabbed in the back" and hadn't really lost WWI. From there they could blame liberals, intelligentsia and Jews. In WWII it was clear by the destruction that they had assuredly lost the war. Also Treaty of Versailles
