It's also part of this weird trope in movies where we can't have the hero kill the villain even if it's in self defense because the hero's hands have to be clean but the movie makes it very clear that this guy needs to die

Guys, you know any accessible books about the Cold War? Yes, I know it's a massive topic, but that's what I mean when I say accessible: an entry point into this huge subject.

A great movie between two great actors #GeneHackmanRIP youtu.be/WLhUK6K6F-k?...

What in the sweet baby Jesus is this

Choose one film from each of your 30 favorite directors. Name of the film and director, along with a still. (Let's see if I actually commit to doing 30) PECKER (1998) Directed by John Waters

All of a sudden these aren't looking so bad now

Guys, can you help my friend Sarah? If you can't donate right now, please share her post in order to spread the word. Her family has been through so much these past few years, let's help them! 💚

I wonder if this is true

I was just explaining why I love SPY GAME so much, and I remembered that it came out in 2001, the same year as VANILLA SKY, another film I love-- and I realize there's an emotional connection there that links my love for both movies. I'll explain. 🧵

A sequel to THE MUMMY RETURNS with the original cast, set during the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, which allows an ancient dark force to come back to life. With no way to stop it, Ardeth Bay resorts to resurrecting Imhotep and weaponize him against the new threat, with the aid of his old friends.

I miss the 90s so much it hurts.

The Remains of the Day 2 was quite the departure from the first one

Wait - Martin Campbell had a new film out in December and I didn’t hear a peep about it, let alone see any marketing. What the hell is happening to this industry? It’s called DIRTY ANGELS, by the way - with Eva Green. Martin Campbell is one of action cinema’s all-time greats.

Jonathan Demme’s neo-noir LAST EMBRACE is seriously underrated. It’s as if Demme plugged Roy Scheider’s Doc character from MARATHON MAN into a spin-off paranoid thriller. Great films are the ones that imprint on the memory and trigger all the senses. This one does that.

Your retro video of the night comes from exactly 50 years ago today—Feb. 12, 1975. the premiere of THE CHER SHOW, with guests Bette Midler, Elton John and Flip Wilson. Ladies and gentlemen….Cher: youtu.be/2IELt6jz2kg?...

I like DTV movies. Remember what Chef Gusteau said in RATATOUILLE? "Anyone can cook"? Same with movies. So it's weird to me to see directors ashamed of having a movie released directly to streaming. It's ok, guy. You made a DTV movie. You don't have to pretend it's a blockbuster. Own your work.

Inspired by my friends at @a4epodcast.bsky.social, I started my journey through the Sniper series, and watched the first movie tonight. This is a pretty good movie! I'd only seen it once, thirty years ago, so this was basically a first time watch for me.

A single dad of 5 kids was hospitalized away from them for more than 6 weeks with life-threatening COVID and on oxygen and IV feeding. Now there are overdue rent, utility and massive childcare bills. Help this family get through the next 3 months with any donation. Click: gofund.me/8723f1da

Gotta say, Roger is way off with this take youtu.be/Ydwiw1ChJaw?...

I'm going to start calling myself a quitter from now on

Underrated Simpsons line: "Why'd you let him be his own bannister?" "What difference would it make? He hit the friggin queen!"

On @reactorsff.bsky.social what seemed to have been a game-changing character alteration that would affect the show thenceforth was instead a quick way to write out an actor who didn't want to be there anymore. Sigh. The BABYLON 5 Rewatch has some "Divided Loyalties." reactormag.com/babylon-5-re...

bless pbs for putting all of their documentaries on YouTube for the free

Anyone else a fan of sitcoms? Even the crappy ones? I'm not simply talking about any half hour comedy show but a multi-cam show in front of a studio audience

Making a short film is hard but it doesn’t have to be! The Woman Who Knows proof of concept is out! A psychological thriller murder mystery in the lens of a chronically and mentally ill woman. Filmmakers, watch! Let’s make a feature. #filmsky youtu.be/rdcMTJNiID8?...

Yo remember when the South Korean prime minister declared martial law and the opposition party and citizens stormed the National Assembly Proceeding Hall to pass a vote to lift it and then later impeached him? Remember that?

#NowWatching Q&A (Sidney Lumet, 1990) One of the best feelings in the world is chucking on a movie on the basis of "yeah, I've been meaning to check that out" and getting unexpectedly thrown face first into a five star banger. This is the best crime thriller I've seen in years.
