I hope all of you realize that job listings saying you "must be able to stand, bend, lift, carry 50+lbs" and similar things in jobs that do not regularly require things of that nature/have options where you don't have to do those things are deliberately trying to weed out disabled people

my disabilities are very much disabling today and I find that very rude

It’s hysterical that anyone thinks that the GOP cares about us dying of fentanyl overdoses when they want us to die or starvation, communicable disease, diseases, being exposed to the elements, not having healthcare, undrinkable water, and unbreathable air, mass slaughter by guns…

why is it so hard to expect my loved ones to "let" me use my wheelchair :/

i’m a man. from the moment i’m born to the moment i die society is obliged to provide me with a constant slew of friends, pop culture role models, friendly check-ins, scold protections, financial incentives and sympathetic outreaches else i go full fash

Why is there so much pain involved in being alive, why is the advice always "you have to not care". When the problem is that I want other people to care. To care enough to change my material reality.

Having a disabled person wave their mobility aid at you angrily is actually a pretty strong statement. We need them to keep our balance, minimize pain, move around and often times just to stand. If we're waving the one thing that keeps us safe at you, YOU FUCKED UP BIG TIME and should be scared.

This is making the rounds, so I wanted to add that separating a disabled person from a mobility aid is like taking off a body part. Further, cops have a tendency to damage said mobility aids, which they definitely don’t reimburse for. These pictures are crueler than you think.

To be fair, the reward for working really hard isn't ALWAYS just dying known as someone who worked really hard. Sometimes you work yourself into a permanent condition and die known as a malingering parasite because everybody assumes you were faking your disability to get out of work instead.

anyone wanna be my wealthy benefactor and buy me approximately 3,000 NeoWalk canes? 😭

and her!!

thinking about The Others 😍 #stylestix #mobilityaids #fashionablecanes

I went grocery shopping for anywhere from 1-2 hours using forearm crutches and now my buck muscles are absolutely spent. I just got up to pour myself a drink and use the bathroom and the pain started almost immediately 🥴

Things chronically ill/disabled people DON’T owe you: *Their medical info or proof of why they need a mobility aid, disabled parking, or a service animal *Their time/labor educating you *Niceness if you’re being ableist/cruel to them *Gratefulness for your unsolicited advice Hope this helps!

This International Women’s Day, remember that women are disproportionately impacted by many chronic illnesses. We’re more likely to be abandoned by our spouse/partner when we become disabled, and mistreated/gaslit by the medical profession Women’s rights & disability rights are uniquely intertwined

Not enough people understand that being able-bodied is temporary and there’s nothing you can reliably do to prevent aging, injury, illness and disability. Get good with it and get behind accessibility for everyone else AND FOR YOU.

man, people really do not get how being abused as a child fundamentally warps your experience of reality for the rest of your life. must be nice

Compassion shown for the trauma you've experienced in life, is something others who've experienced trauma as well, deserve. Your trauma doesn't eliminate or minimize anybody else's.

I need a cold brew coffee, everything bagel toasted with cream cheese, and a kiss on the forehead

Being disabled isn’t some abstract concept. It’s not a moral failing. It’s not something you can “try harder” their way out of. It’s something that can happen to anyone at any time. Once it happens to you, you will understand how little support exists. Help us & your future self will thank you.

this is day 3 of Flexeril and it's already a markedly different experience than day 1. day 2 was also different than day 1. it's already less effective. granted i didn't really need it today but. it's been over and hour and i feel the same. no drowsiness and no muscle relaxation...

Vaccines. Fluoride. Measles.

The ability to control mass party opinion this directly is unlike anything I’ve really seen in my time covering politics.

Doing our taxes. We spent $33k on employer provided health insurance and $17k on daycare so we could go to work to get that health insurance. Good system.

Getting older is crazy.. stay up later than normal ONE time and now your sleep schedule fucked for 3 weeks 😭

Ordered a new cane bc sad cripple feelings

DEI Obsession Destroys Right Winger’s Brain

Why can’t I work? 1. Most employers don’t want to hire disabled people 2. If they do employ us, they don’t put in reasonable adjustments. If you complain, you get fired 3. Most employers don’t provide flexible working hours 4. You get fired for needing time off for appointments #disability

I want a NeoWalk cane so bad 🥴

I need a lighter wheelchair but won't be able to get insurance to cover one, and the only one appropriate for me costs like $800 🫠 I can't use my current chair without someone around to push when I need bc self propel is HARD

I picked up my hubby's prescriptions today. He's on insulin, Ozempic, and other drugs. The total came to $1400, but he paid nothing because of our provincial pharmacare. If we were in America, he'd be dead.

Those of us who did work but had to stop, don't need to preface or try to "justify" the fact we're now claiming disability benefits with "I worked and paid into the system", etc... It shouldn't make a difference. All disabled people & people unable to work deserve support.

Holy shit are we fucked, pack it in.

“You’re so lucky I wish I could sit around all day” Every disabled person hears this at some point in their lives Disability is NOT a vacation. It’s an unrelenting full time. No evenings or weekends off. No OT. No manager you can complain to It’s a constant fight for dignity, care & survival

Have to say I've been very fortunate being visibly disabled in public. People are actually nicer to me when I'm using mobility aids (which I use all the time if I'm out now). They move out of my way, apologize before it's even necessary, hold doors for me and sometimes even let me skip them in line.

Adding When Driving is not an Option by @nondriver.bsky.social to the essential reading I recommend around transportation. As a disabled person who cycles for transportation, not a lot was surprising to me in the book. But it’s approachable with data, stories, and specific recommendations. 1/3

Casually pressing you into an edible gummy and then handing it to your friend who is too blitzed to throughly inspect it.

To think that someone needs to “earn a living” is to effectively state that you believe there is a point at which someone doesn’t deserve to have their basic needs met. That you likely didn’t consider that suggests a deep detachment from your own humanity, which is why you can’t see anyone else’s.

Everyday at the whims of a dumbfuck madman.

muscle relaxers are wild. i wake up feeling good from taking one before bed the night before. but as soon as i Do anything (stand, walk, bend) all the relief EVACUATES MY BODY AT RAPID SPEED

republicans: fyi we are bombing france for being too gay and lead poisoning is now mandatory democrats: yeah? well prepare yourselves for several strongly worded haikus
