Politicians like to balance the books and i understand that, but when there is an existential threat looming surely it makes more sense to borrow as much as you need to defend yourselves. If you don't then you simply won't be around for much longer and if that happens you won't have to pay it back.

After WW2 the USA loaned various European countries money to help rebuild; the Marshall plan.
The UK finally finish paying off the loan in 2006!! Much of the 'aid' hat the USA provides ISN'T free!!

Surely military personnel who defend the USA should only be dismissed if they don't perform well in military situations NOT because they might not like the president.
