Another soul weighed down by gravity. Snacking on rpgs and thinking about manga. Hoping for a better world. (He/him).

Yeah it’s really too melodramatic to fit the mold of “Gundam, but gritty and realistic”.

We don’t really know they aren’t doing that already though?
Only thing we know for certain is that one VA asked for public support. Or at least I haven’t heard anyone else say anything about SGG.

Wouldn't that also be a bad look? Just ignoring the massive amount of negative attention. I dunno, I think I'd be more suspicious if they just decided to ride it out.

I’m not trying to defend them or anything, it’s just that from my limited understanding of how those contracts work even seemingly minor benign stuff can be pretty consequential.
Imagine if they flat out stated they wouldn’t sign because of X term. They would be instantly flagged as bad

I mean do we even know what the terms of the interrim agreement is? Its not unthinkable that there are non-shady reasons not to sign new contract

I think that was Disgaea 3? Haven’t played that many nippon ichi games tho

Guess it’s a matter of choosing who to talk to.

“It’s being attacked for being woke!”. Mate it isn’t getting review bombed and everyone seems to be enjoying the game.
Worst criticism I’ve seen is that it’s kinda alright. I’m honestly considering buying it myself.

The system opens up a lot later on.
In the beginning it very much plays like a FE with type matchups, but at late game combat feels more like crashing two rube goldberg machines into each other. Very fun and full of depth.
UO’s big weakness imo is story and mission variety.

Are you playing the eng fan patch?

Worth keeping in mind that SG has an excellent track record, so while this is bad news, it's probabbly worth to extend them some benefit of doubt until the situation is elaborated on.
I haven't seen any other VA's speak out on SG yet.

Yeah not to spoil anything, but there’s so many things where I was like “guess we’re doing this again ig”

C’s path is at least somewhat interesting, yeah.
But Reverie is really just peak “nothing happens, but remember this character?”

How’s the game?

1. Unicorn Overlord
Over the years, Vanillaware has become one of my favourite devs. Their games are so lovely and self-indulgent, and UO stands as a testament to their ethos as a studio.
It's a treasure of a game that probably shouldn't exist. It's easily my GOAT for 2024.

2. Persona 3: Reload
Usually not a fan of Atlus remakes, but this is a pretty cool take on P3. It doesn't have the same charm as the PS2 version, but there's enough of a difference for me to compartmentalize them as two different games.
Had a good time revisiting Iwatodai.

3. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Really impressive game in a lot of ways. Loved Remake and I had a good time with this as well, but burned out on the checklist vibe they've introduced.
Might pick it up again, since the gameplay and characters are so fun.
no choice but to stan Aerith/10

4. Eiyuden Chronicles
Big fan of Suikoden 2 and backed this on kickstarter. It's not bad per say, but I can't help but be disappointed by how it turned out.
Sadly, it mostly feels like an uninspired retread of Suikoden 2. Again its not bad, but why not just play Suikoden instead?

5. Balatro
Not the biggest fan of roguelikes that exist for the sake of "numbers go up", which is basically what this is.
I checked it out on a recommendation from a friend, and I guess I understand the hype, but I just can't engage with it as more than a time waster
Not for me / 10

absolutely terrible
what is the name of this game (so I can avoid it at all cost)
comment in response to

This was brought up by thinking about Unicorn Overlord.
It has this amazingly robust system and gorgeous assets, that Vanillaware is never gonna use again.
All the game is missing is quality content inside that frame (e.g. a better campaign, more mission variety, an actual plot).

Imagine moving on from Persona 3 without making P4.
Building up all the system and assets for Baldur's Gate 1 and then not make BG2.
What if Bioware hadn't hired Obsidian to make their sequels? No KOTOR 2 or New Vegas.
All the Yakuza games basically.

Can you imagine making the first Ace Attorney and then just stopping there? Just move on to a new project?

I was warned about the width of dungeons in Daybreak, but they were honestly so bland that I didn't even really notice them being especially wide.
Gun to my head I don't think I could recount any specific dungeons beyond "sewers", "ruin", "mountain path" and so on.
comment in response to
post
Yeah, if it didn't autosave in dungeons the entire system would collapse in frustration lol.
I think Daybreak's system is cool enough, but I can't really shake the feeling that it doesn't actually matter? Like if you removed it would the game be worse off? I'm not sure.

By and large this isn't a major flaw in either game, but I do find it quite funny how these two systems were compared, but without much though on how they affect their respective games.

In Metaphor, you don't just lose some health, even if that is actually way more impactful than it is in Daybreak, but go straight to fighting for your life.
Expending too many resources can even mean that you can't complete the dungeon in that day, meaning lasting consequences for your playthrough.
comment in response to

In Daybreak it takes a couple of hits before the game pulls you into turn-based mode with a disadvantage. You don't get overly punished from a single mistake, but only if you clearly fucked up.
You might lose som health, but can otherwise keep up your pace.
comment in response to

And on the surface, this is good imo. Dungeon crawling in Metaphor is TENSE. I'm constantly on the lookout for enemies lurking in the shadows.
But my issue is that it mostly just takes one lucky hit from an enemy to ambush you. My dodging is frankly not good enough to never get hit.

In comparison, resource management is the name of the game in MegaTen titles.
If an enemy gets the jump on you in Metaphor, you better believe you're in for at bad time. Even if you survive, you've probably taken a lot of damage and burned through more resources than if you had the advantage.

Combat in Trails and MegaTen games (like Metaphor, don't @ me) have completely different philosophies.
Getting hit in Daybreak means losing a bit of health, but there's little consequence to that, since healing is cheap and EP abundant. At worst you have to trek back to the entrance to refresh.
