It's also, obviously, a horrendous, repugnant way to treat people (making them pause in the middle of moving internationally, etc) but if the current claim is that the federal government "want to save taxpayer money," they're doing a shit job.

This is a common thread of so many of the current "efficiency" cuts: a ton of money has already been spent on moving military families/scientific research studies/Natl Parks Projects and stopping funding abruptly in the middle of the process is much MORE expensive for the American taxpayer.

When I was a kid, abandoned to the circumstances I was born into, I learned it’s enough to do what you believe is right for as long as you can. The fantasy of being saved or becoming a savior burns up like dry leaves, but solid values pertaining to everyone’s humanity is creeping fire. It lasts.

They're worried about federal employees wasting funds but it took eight months for my coworker to get approved for a label maker (which she needed) and I have to sign whenever I need a new roll of tape (in case I go through tape too fast??).

Yep, my digital calendar works really well for remembering irregular events/get togethers but when I try to use it to remind myself to do regular chores or build habits, the reminder notifications become white noise I don't pay attention to.

I read a wide variety of historical fiction when I was a kid/teen and nowadays I love the random tidbits of history I learn from well-researched historical romance.
Also, @danaflo.bsky.social showed me P&P 1995 for the first time when I was 12 and I'm just constantly seeking that feeling again!

The scent of a perfect fall afternoon curled up in a window seat with a book and a cup of hot tea and the window cracked so you can spell the crisp air and decaying leaves

Here are the 52 House Democrats who voted for this garbage bill that would have helped the Trump admin kill off nonprofits for "financing terror"
