Sadly you're right that that is the likely scenario especially with misinformation like you've already mentioned. Faking an entire person has some insane implications to me, doesn't take a huge leap to imagine it used for assassinations and replacing people with AI deep fake style stuff.

In the most hopelessly optimistic remaining corner of my mind I think it COULD fix huge amounts of human problems and free up enough labour that people will have the time/freedom to enjoy life more.
Robots+AI could MAYBE give us that star trek utopia i think we all want. OR just make assholes richer
