There is a lot of debate as to whether AUKUS is dead. Various Plan-B's are under consideration.

The Australia-US relationship is one where both parties have a massive amount to lose
Pity that Donald Trump is completely oblivious to these issues

The United States would have a lot of problems fighting a war against China. For a start, there are satellite ground stations which must be (a) in the southern hemisphere; (b) somewhere between GMT+8 and GMT+11.
So, without Australia, the US loses a large proportion of it's overhead monitoring 5/

Canberra's options are limited. Australia is militarily indefensible using just the Australian population and GDP. Australia requires a large power ally for defence.
The choices are the US, the Quad (Australia, US, Japan, India) or China. 4/

AUKUS is a *big* deal to Australia. It's a $1tn+ project to acquire 9 nuclear attack submarines - with much $100bn+ to be spent in the US.

In addition, Australia's main defence project Aukus - a $1tn project to acquire 9 nuclear attack submarines - is under threat. It received bipartisan support when it was announced, but like all other Biden initiatives, the current administration is planning to cancel it.

I don't think it matters. Most GOP districts are so gerrymanded that pissing off a large number of voters will not affect an election. Rusted on Republican voters will hand the incumbent the election no matter whst.

Donald Trump is a notorious deadbeat, famous for refusing to pay bills. Now he is turning America into a deadbeat as well.
