Many are asking what should we do now? “We use our power, organize, mobilize, educate…the American story will not be written by who occupies the White House or by the wealthiest among us…it will be written by you, by ‘we the people.’” -fmr VP Kamala Harris receiving the NAACP Chairman’s Award.

Today he denies it. Tomorrow he'll state it as true. Keeping the communication chaotic is part of the process of overwhelming and tiring everyone out but also keeping them distracted. And it's only February.

People with doctorates are the most liberal and progressive. The entire mission of destroying academia is to eliminate entire voting demographics. They explicitly spell this out. Shutting down PhD programs isn't an accident, it's the goal.

We're shining the spotlight on Dr. Susanne Nicholas, a trailblazer in nephrology. From developing treatments for diabetic kidney disease to mentoring future physicians, she’s driving change and shaping the future of medicine. Hear from Dr. Nicholas: vimeo.com/1056942413/6...

The weaponization of US technology companies means we should treat our dependence on them as a national security threat ↘️

Very interesting piece. The data is eye-opening, even if it does reflect what’s noticeable day to day.

The poster child for white male mediocrity, Pete Hegseth, is firing qualified Black men and women from the military.

I repeat, if you or a loved one was recently fired from the federal government during your probationary period, and the reason you were given was poor performance, please reach out to us at www.centerforemploymentjustice.com. We have a plan and may be able to help you.

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

“We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist” James Baldwin

If I backtracked every decision I made in my current job, for the amount of times these has happened in the last 2 weeks I will certainly be seen as ineficiente and likely put on a PIP or worse…

The Trump administration reversed itself on making funding and staff cuts to a federal health program for survivors of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, after bipartisan criticism of the moves.

Truth. And the truth hurts.

LET'S GOOOOOOO STUDENTS!!

Hegseth's comments about General Brown having his position (probably) because of his skin color are reprehensible, but not at all surprising. apnews.com/article/trum...

Most people probably aren’t tracking this but Senate Republicans just started an all-night voting marathon that will allow them to gut Medicaid and increase child hunger while giving handouts to billionaires like Elon Musk.

400 FAA personnel let go were workers tasked with: 🔹️helping aircraft safety inspectors 🔹️repairing air traffic control facilities 🔹️ updating digital maps pilots use in flight 🔹️making any changes that the FAA may make redirecting airplanes

The Trump Administration is maintaining the NIH grant freeze despite lawsuits challenging the order, a Nature article reported today. Science funding in the US is already lagging, leaving researchers in limbo. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

What could possible go wrong?

Pretty devastating new WaPo poll on Trump A majority of Americans: • Say he’s not honest (62%) • Say he’s exceeded his authority (57%) • Disapprove his job as president (53%) • Disapprove his economic record (53%) • Disapprove management style (54%)

Preeclampsia has impacted my own family and I know it’s impacted families across the world. It’s a confounding condition and diagnosis can be super challenging This is what NIH-funded research enables: incredible innovation that may just save your life.

I think Alzheimer’s is bad, and we should work on prevention, treatments and ideally cures. Sorry to get so partisan, but that’s how I feel.

The CDC has an ultra-competitive 2-year program to train "the best of the best" to lead public health labs. Most of the current class were terminated over the weekend. www.science.org/content/arti... (by @meredithwadman.bsky.social)

If the admin wanted more US-born scientists, telling them at the last minute that they can't come to graduate school is probably not the best way to do it. www.statnews.com/2025/02/19/t...

🗣️ @aoc.bsky.social out fighting for the people & federal workers: “Every day our job is to wake up and say ‘what can I do today?’ — There is no act too small. Every action matters.” 🇺🇸

Trump's appeal on ending birthright citizenship has failed. The 9th Circuit panel (including a Trump appointee) all ruled against him.

Do not comply in advance. Stand in the way of those who would subvert what the flag represents. We do not kneel to a would-be king. Be the friction that slows their progress.

Sad day here at the IRS. Keep all the terminated folks in your prayers. #FedStrong

Per @isabellacueto.bsky.social: “Deep cuts at Health and Human Services over the weekend = loss of workers who: - inspected pharma manufacturing plants - guarded infant formula supply - reviewed medical products - monitored wastewater for mpox - expanded maternal health access +++ more”

This is incredible. And such a reminder of the cowardice of universities-especially elites-who are using neutrality as an excuse to erase Black, Brown, disabled, queer, non-binary and trans students and communities they are supposed to serve. Thank you community colleges for leading the way.

🚨OH HELL NO! ‘DOGE appears to have busted their way into the Social Security Administration, forcing the resignation of the acting commissioner, Michelle King, when she resisted their demands to give DOGE access to Agency’s most sensitive government records’. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/doge-...

taking black kids away from their parents and putting them on farms seems really familiar to me! what could it be?

When NWS forecasters can't communicate with Canadian forecasters, things like plane accidents happen.

Want to go visit the national parks this year? Sorry. The reservation system is shut down, EMT personnel are gone, so don't get hurt or lost. No one can clean the bathrooms or cabins, so they'll be closed. Rangers are fired. www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

Over 1300 CDC employees, including the entire Epidemic Intelligence Service were fired without cause on Friday. At the same time, we are in the midst of an uncontrolled nationwide outbreak of H5N1. There is currently a measles outbreak in Texas & NM (1/3) #medsky #publichealthsky #obgynsky

In the wake of the energy created by protests today, and in service of continuing that energy on for all, including those who were unable to protest due to disability, job constraints, or any other reason - here are some things that you can do, today, or any other day, to fight back.

For those of you who have noted that Substack is basically a Nazi Bar and you’re looking for a place to move your writing to, the info in this thread may be an option worth looking into.

Keith Haring died of AIDS aged 31 on 16 Feb 1990. One of his last works, Unfinished Painting, was deliberately incomplete, reflecting the devastating, unquantifiable loss to the arts due to AIDS. #LGBTplusHistoryMonth

Thanks to all of the NIHers and their friends who reached out to me. I am still here (DM me or Signal jeremymberg.78) I still have a very incomplete picture but based on what I have been told, the damage to NIH and to many wonderful people who work(ed) there is/was impossible for me to imagine 1/n
