"It’s easy to miss the human side of policy, legal compliance, the nitty gritty of efficient government. To get caught up in slogans about fraud or waste. That’s what Musk and Trump are counting on. And yet I see and hear the human side every time my son says “My dad’s name is David.” On @msnbc.com

Why would he go on premium cable and admit on live tv that as a tween he wanted to watch girls pee

Almost 800,000 people on here are following a totally-not-real account claiming it's a group of rogue park workers and who are now posting cryptic nonsense to make it seem like they're sending messages to the deep state. Also they're selling resistance merch. WTF are we doing man?

I would say remotely competent historians understand that major events in history are historically shaped by men born into wealth and power and lots of them were idiots. (Caligula: psychopathic dumbass!)

"It’s not enough to let people know that vaccines don’t cause autism. We also have to affirm that autism is not something to fear, that autistic lives are worth living and supporting, and that autistic people deserve to exist and be loved."

Do this. You will be glad you did.

It’s all connected. There is no way to have a healthy body politic when you’re an unstoppable serial killer abroad.

thinking about all of my family members who still serve and once served, including my grandpops during ww1 and korea and then came home to arkansas where he had no rights that weren't up to the discretion of whatever white person he happened to cross paths with.

The closure of CFPB highlights the grand lie at the heart of DOGE. CFPB is cheap to run & delivers billions to victims of corporate scams. It’s the definition of value for money. But X & Meta hate it because it targets big tech fraud. DOGE is not about waste. It’s about enriching the oligarchy.

Does the Times regret its contributions to those attacks?

In preparation for today’s Super Bowl in New Orleans, state police forced over 100 homeless men and women onto buses under threat of arrest, dumping them in an unheated warehouse. Tents destroyed, belongings lost. Press are barred from the warehouse. The price tag for this cruelty? $17.5 million

It's been said a million times but apparently it's still not clear: if you're more mad at people who refused to vote for politicians committing genocide than at the politicians committing genocide, you are pure trash and a danger to society.

One thing I noticed in the House today was that Rs spiked the football more than you’d ever seen in a Jan 6 EV session. Interrupting Harris to cheer for Trump, Emmer mockingly lifting his hands in prayer when the Walz loss number was announced.

White flight used to be the suburbs. Now it’s moving to a whole new state. MT - as the least Black state in the country- is the new Leavittown.

almost regardless of your politics if you believe in democracy at all then Elon sized fortunes are intolerable. but “centrism” often boils down to “chickenshit”

With only two weeks left in the year, Philly is on track to have its lowest number of homicides in a DECADE, and its third-best year since 2007. Down 37% since last year, down FIFTY PERCENT since 2022. The entire Covid spike, absolutely wiped out. And the coverage? Basically crickets.

NYPD’s new manhunt

I wish more people understood that this version of the American Dream won’t come back. Cheap suburban single-family housing was only possible thanks to high subsidies and cheap land near cities. This has had catastrophic consequences on climate change and keeps requiring huge subsidies for highways.

I'm happy to see that this proposed ban failed and am grateful for my colleagues—particularly my republican colleagues—who recognized this as a distraction from the work we were elected to do. I'm ready to represent my constituents and look forward to working on behalf of the people of Montana.

This week, a federal court ruled that Idaho can enforce its ban on interstate travel for abortion care for minors. www.huffpost.com/entry/idaho-...

“Seventy percent of the illegal weapons seized from criminals in Mexico come from your country. We do not produce these weapons, nor do we consume synthetic drugs. Tragically, it is in our country that lives are lost to the violence resulting from meeting the drug demand in yours”

#OtD 25 Nov 1865 Mississippi passed a Black Code to reintroduce slavery after the civil war. They prevented Black people from renting land, required them to work for whites and barred them from changing jobs. Violators could be jailed & enslaved legally stories.workingclasshistory....

We should all be talking about this . . . www.latintimes.com/dozen-black-...

Assad’s brutal war against the Syrian people was infamously one of the bloodiest campaigns of mass slaughter in recent memory. And yet.

Since Nancy Mace is in the news, I'll post the one thing that was enjoyable about my time on Twitter:

Because of the data gathering methods this number is an undercount by at least an order of magnitude. These data come from press clippings almost entirely in states with no systematic way of recording murders of trans individuals. Everyone quoting this number ought to say so.

The second Gazan family were helping today is Eman’s! You might remember her daughter, Nada, who loves to draw and is very talented☺️. Winter is making itself felt in Gaza this week with temperatures dropping, so we’re attempting to raise money for blankets and kids’ clothes.🙏🏼💪🏼❄️ gofund.me/97ea7006

Can Bluesky be trusted not to enshittify itself? If they answer to shareholders and “market forces,” the answer is likely “no.” Good piece here: doctorow.medium.com/https-plural...

The US just vetoed *another* UN Security Council resolution. It demanded "an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire" & "immediate and unconditional release of all hostages." 14 voted in favor. 1—the US—opposed. This is the 4th UNSC ceasefire resolution US has vetoed.

This is exactly why Democrats should not start conceding on things like trans people in sports. They are already moving onto the next big thing, fearmongering over a trans congresswoman in a bathroom.

I know there’s a ton of solidarity in the state and in this country for people and voters who stood against this kind of treatment of citizens and non-citizens alike. However, you can imagine how difficult it is to be in their shoes and not feel the country’s majority hadn’t, in this month’s…

Maybe helpful in pushing back notions of a popular mandate, that, at least currently, Trump's margin over Harris is less than Hillary Clinton's margin over Trump in 2016. apnews.com/projects/ele...

Friends I would like to share with you a compilation of fundraisers for people I have connected with in Gaza who need our help. No other help is forthcoming and the situation in the north is especially disastrous. 🧵
