🔥 OBAMA: “IMAGINE IF I HAD DONE ANY OF THIS… I say this not on a partisan basis. This has to do with something more precious — who are we as a country, and what values do we stand for?” 🇺🇸

i miss the early internet. people were like “you gotta see this dude. this cat sure is long.” and they were right. it was really long. it never shoulda gotten any more complicated than that.

Every single paper in the U.S. would be excoriating a Dem President who was golfing while the stock market melted down. We all know this. The editorial boards would be screeching, state tv ie Fox would be playing NONSTOP clips, etc. etc. It's worth remembering.

Breaking, per NBC News @garygrumbach.bsky.social -- Judge Paula Xinis in the District of Maryland has ruled that the United States Government must return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the United States by April 7 at 11:59p

CARTOON OF THE DAY (From @BillBramhall @NYDailyNews )

So @wildjustice.bsky.social is too edgy for @privateeyenews.bsky.social ! We're fans because the magazine speaks truth to power . That's what WJ tries to do too . We were surprised when PE said that it wouldn't run our second and third adverts , especially as they gave no reason for this .

Most Accurate Headline of the Day 🏆 www.newyorker.com/news/letter-...

they are now importing our great posts to save their failing website! we must implement reciprocal tarrifs upon X screenshots

Look around!

People will say this is the result of a presidential election, and that’s partly true. But the Constitution does not delegate tariff power to the president, and he is only able to impose these ruinous, peace-destroying taxes because Congress has let him do so. Congress can end this at any time.

he's got a point

thinking about this today for no reason at all

A new record and powerful words that should inspire us all. Thank you Senator Cory Booker

A great example of a person making an a*% out of themselves.

Bill Burr is a national treasure 🎯! "You journalists need to get your balls back"

This is one hundred percent a case of a man completely obsessed with the idea of tariffs being told "no, bad" by every single smart person around him, and the flip to "it's gonna cause some pain" rhetoric was when they finally got through to him. But his stupid stubborn ego won't let him back down.

Despite backing the US in every major conflict this century—and offering to water down our tax on US tech billionaires—we’ve been rewarded with the same tariffs as Iran. It’s like we’re meant to be grateful Trump gave our friends a black eye and left us with just a wedgie.

The UK exports £360bn of goods to the EU, on which we now struggle with big non tariff barriers, compared to £60bn to the US. Imagine looking at this sh1tshow and thinking it vindicates Brexit in any way.

Brexiteers are hailing the 10% UK tariff rate (vs 20% EU rate) as a 'Brexit win'. 1. Brexit wiped out far more GDP growth & tax revenue than UK will save from 10% vs 20% rate. 2. Potential US trade deal won't compensate for lost EU trade. 3. Brexit won't insulate UK from a full global trade war.

Raskin: Would it be problem for it to be standard practice to conduct sensitive foreign policy on a signal chat group? It just came out that Waltz’s team set up 20 signal group chats for crises across the world… I’m sure this will raise the question on whether he should continue in that position

Cory Booker as he breaks Strom Thurmond's speaking record: "I'm not here because of his speech. I'm here despite his speech. I'm here because as powerful as he was, the people are more powerful."

"I don't want a Disney vacation of our history! I don't a whitewashed history, I don't want a homogenized history. Tell me the wretched truth about America, because that speaks to our greatness" -- 20 hours into his speech, Cory Booker is spitting absolute 🔥

Jesus Christ, this is horrifying. slate.com/news-and-pol...

🔥 @ninajankowicz.com: "Mr Taibbi said when he was first searching through the so-called Twitter files he didn't know what he was looking at. Well, he still doesn't. Everything looks like a conspiracy when you don't know how anything works."

NEW: AI bots caused Wikipedia's bandwidth costs to increase by 50 percent last year, and are still growing exponentially. I wrote about its plan to fight back — and whether it will be enough. www.platformer.news/wikipedia-ai...

Cory Booker just gave the longest speech in the history of Congress and concluded by apologizing to everyone who had to stay up all night keeping the chamber open and operating.

Authoritarians depend on you obeying in advance and not resisting. Every act of disruption weakens them and slows down their plan. It's a crack. The cracks add up. This is why what Cory Booker is doing is important compared to the weak complicity of Schumer and others.

WITNESS: I think you're confusing Oliver Stone with Roger Stone. REP. LAUREN BOEBERT: Sorry. WITNESS: It's Roger Stone who implicated LBJ in the assassination of the president; it's not my friend Oliver Stone.

I’ll say this, I’ve had the chance to meet Cory Booker a few times over the years, and one of the first *he came to my office* to meet with us, when he had no reason to, just to listen. A sign of his humility and genuine willingness to engage. I don’t always agree, but he will fight. That matters.

Just so everybody understands, Booker has been speaking cogently about the issues the entire time and Strom Thurmond famously spent hours reading from the encyclopedia, because segregationists were and are dumbshits

Booker took the floor at 6:59 pm last night. 23 hours in he’s looking good, voice isn’t even hoarse, the stamina! Totally fired up right now. “Moral moment when the character of our country is being tested”

Cory Booker is getting emotional talking about the sacrifices Americans have made for their country, including his colleague Tammy Duckworth. And he's still going strong!

Booker: "I confess that I have been imperfect. I confess that I've been inadequate to the moment. I've confess that the Democratic Party has made terrible mistakes that gave a lane to this demagogue. I confess we all must look in the mirror and say 'we will do better.'"

what booker is doing right now is an example of what i mean when i say things like “we need more ambition right now.” there is room in american politics right now for people with ambition to take big stands and reap the rewards. he’s doing it!

Time to speak up

Senator Booker: What kind of man is in the white house that makes fun of the disabled, who lies so much that the fact checkers lose count, that minimizes the pain and the suffering

Are all government accounts on X just troll accounts now? This is from the official House Foreign Affairs Committee—the same committee responsible for foreign aid, global HIV/AIDS policy, security assistance, and national security. This is how they choose to represent themselves.

It's also the day for my favorite meme! If this aging Klingon warrior can get it right, so can anyone.

Well this is worryingly familiar right now. I kinda knew all this stuff, but watching this refresher, it's terrifying how close some of this stuff maps.

"We're going to arrest you for making fun of our ugly ass car" is like if the Soviet Union commissioned Mosfilm to make a parody version of Grease

From a Sunday Telegraph story about people who have inherited houses while already owning one, complaining that having to pay double council tax on this second home (if they keep it) is ‘extortion’ and I just…cannot

Animation is a caricature of life, not a lesser imitation of it. Remaking cartoons in live-action, or giving the characters realistic proportions, hairs, warts, etc., robs them of the stylized exaggeration that made them appealing in the first place.
