This is a top priority of Donald Trump, and does not include a ban on Trump profiting off of his many family crypto ventures, which have netted them many millions of dollars since his election.

Under Trump,
the USA may very well
have the most corrupt
government on Earth,
surpassing all those
"shithole" countries.
Not exactly a
"shining city on a hill"
anymore.
During the vote, top bill backer Kirsten Gillibrand and chief opponent Elizabeth Warren got into a heated argument. Warren strongly believes this will pave the way for corruption, risk the stability of the financial system and allow more criming. Gillibrand argues this bill will protect consumers.
I mean, I'm not saying it would be inaccurate, I'm just not sure calling them on it would in any way shame them into recasting or convince centrists who don't understand what's being discussed but want to appear moderate.
Just curious, as my brain isn't totally fried from having a PhD, on what should anyone trust gillibrand? She is right wing lawyer funded scum of the earth.
Somehow, I'm not surprised Gillibrand is one of the main backers. When people complain about the Democratic Party being Republican lite, all New York Democratic politicians outside of AOC are the prototypical examples to use.
Elections are imperfect binary choices. Fight like hell for your candidate in the primaries but acknowledge that on the whole those 16 Dems are better than the Republicans they ran against.
Doesn't mean they're immune from criticism, though. Or primary challenges.
How in the hell could this possibly increase consumer protections? Why should anybody believe Gillibrand here when Warren literally conceived of the CFPB???
Losing my freaking mind
So there's a stablecoin called Tether that has issued 150 billion dollars of tokens allegedly backed by USD. Nobody knows if they really have the dollars.
They've been claiming they'll publish an audit for 10 years and never done it. This law will make them publish an audit, or ban them in the US
I think they're probably yelling at them for being shitty representatives that have sold out to corporate forces and are helping a facsit forward his self serving bullshit, I understand being tactical but 16 dems went along playing nice to flip two idiot liars is pitiful
Remember when Gillibrand was first elected she ran as a Republican. Nothing notable in her career besides dragging Senator Franken for his previous comedic act, to resignation. She’s shown us who she is, while Senator Warren has led Consumer Protection against financial predators.
The GOP isn’t on the side of protecting consumers. That really is all anyone needs to know. Democrats should be voting against everything the GOP vote for, but god forbid they stand up for their voters.
Nah, I just followed the story, complete with Roger Fucking Stone's taunt before his ratfking scheme shifted into gear. There was no code, it was a naked character assassination, and you went along for the ride.
I liked Al Franken because he tried to do the right things for the Anerican people. Doing comedy only equalls a "sex pest" to some holier-than-thou political purist.
Further more, I think you KNOW all that and are just practicing being a cunt just like Gillibrand.
The man had allegations from EIGHT women. How much goddamn smoke do you need to see before it occurs to you that there's a fucking fire. I liked Al too. I thought the first allegation was politically motivated and weak as hell.
Warren is correct.
The rest are rabidly feathering their nests while our rights burn.
Good to know at least.
Words mean nothing and actions mean everything
Booker is an AIPAC sycophant. He takes money from them and the morning after his 24 hour “Look at me! Look at me!” Telethon he voted with the republicans to supply Netanyahu with more weapons.
I didn’t think I could dislike gillibrand anymore than I already did. I guess this is how someone behaves when they are only looking after themselves and have no intention of running again
Right? The party needs to be cleaned out and they need to start over everything about this administration is showing how much politicians care about themselves and their pockets.
Gillibrand is one of my two lazy, dismal senators. She’s never done a damn thing, and I keep voting for her. But she has only contempt for us, so never again. Gillibrand is a loser.
Good, but don't let that blind you to what she's doing now. It's great that she stood up for women, and demanded an investigation into Franken's serial sexual harassment. But now she's a corrupt traitor the nation
Love this response. “What she did to him”. 🙄 He did it to himself. He deserved the eventual outcome, and she’s also a shitty Senator. Those two things are unconnected.
Yep - we vote in her district and that’s what we’ve seen as well over the years. I remember her bragging about her top nra rating until that became a liability and then she flipped. What she did to Al Franken.. no thanks
This is a highly speculative trading (I hate even calling it an asset) vehicle. Gillibrand wants consumer protection, put a warning on it like cigarettes.
That's OK, because there really is no understanding this scam as a legal investment scheme.
It only exists to either purchase illegal items (drugs, kiddie porn) that would get you caught if you used a credit card, or it props up a Ponzi scheme like Trump is running to siphon funds from people.
You can still get caught by using bitcoin to purchase illicit pornography, everything is tracable. A few months ago a pedoring of 3000 unique users got busted because of it.
It seems like it’s unregulated digital securities. Some are more like stocks. They’re not currency because you pretty much always have to turn them into currency to buy anything. So it’s just an investment vehicle that the SEC can’t regulate.
warren you don't get to have an opinion after your rat-fucking in 2020 led us to this interminable situation you dumbass. shut da fuck up. this is your party now. why aren't you happy? you get what you asked for.
i mean, she played ball to backstab the “outsider,” shouldn’t that mean she gets MORE of an opinion? from the perspective of the party, I mean, not morally
The crypto “industry” is biggest donor industry now.
Crazy to think that they are bigger than pharma , energy, insurance, healthcare, defense, AIPAC, etc.

Well, this is just unfortunate. I fear too many Senate Democrats think of Warren mostly as a Bernie-adjacent lefty, rather than as someone who understands the nuts and bolts of finance and policy way better than they do. They’ll come to regret helping this bill get enacted.
Bernie-adjacent lefty? You mean like the effective senators who work to make people's lives better with a living wage, health care, and affordable medications?
Warren is a left-populist, and Biden tried to govern as a left-populist (or something close), but left-populism crashed out last year while the crypto industry helped get Trump re-elected. So now Senate Dems are drifting away from Warren and toward crypto to keep from getting spent against.
I disagree, they're thinking about right now, too! These guys are getting campaign contributions, sure, but they're also getting mysteriously personally wealthy, which of course someone should prosecute only now I guess we can't because it's all legal lol
It was a well-known fact that Biden was pushed to the left by Bernie on a lot of issues. It was one of the reasons why Bernie was one of the few Dems who didn't want Biden to leave the race.
I meant *Joe* Biden, the guy who continuously lied on behalf of the IDF and called college student protestors antisemitic. The dude who said that America needs a strong Republican Party. Who is this leftist Biden you’re talking about
The crypto industry essentially purchased senate Dems. I mean, why else would one schedule a weekend retreat with Marc Andreessen post-inauguration 2025?
Bernie-adjacent lefties understand the nuts and bolts of finance way better than many Senate Democrats. That's how they know this wasn't an ignorant vote, it's corrupt.
Honestly, at this point, I think the group that voted for this bill is corrupt. None of them are dumb, even if they don't understand finance as well as Warren. They understand what they voted for.
Lmao no they won't. They were paid to vote for this bill, well aware of all its problems. Hence the pathetic attempt to pretend they're going to pass a separate crypto anti-corruption bill too (not including any of it in the actual bill that got passed of course)
Warren is the only one I trust on financial systems.
She was explaining them to Biden even before she was in the Senate (did not change his vote on some shell company thing that was bad policy but would have played poorly in Delaware).
It's not "unfortunate". It's deliberate, planned corruption by every single Dem on that list. They know exactly what they're doing and it'd going to make them all very, very rich at everyone else's expense.
What happens now is the bill will be open to amendments. It will require 60 votes to end debate and move to final passage. That could happen this week or potentially after the Memorial Day recess. The House has yet to pass its own bill, which also has substantial Democratic support.
Dems need to bury this, and all Rep 🐂💩 bills, in amendments.
Add an amendment to force everyone to register as an organ donor & donate blood twice a year (to force a case on body autonomy).
Add an amendment to prevent the teaching of religion to children under 18 (as a response to anti-LGBTQ laws).
Anecdotal impression is that average people are not getting this at all. Not understanding and not liking why the Democrats are doing this. Why not make a bigger effort to explain their reasons to the people? It feels like bullshit and disappointment.
It's possible there could be a vote on an amendment that would bar Trump from profiting, but that would almost certainly fail. No Republicans have yet backed the Democratic bills that would bar presidents from cashing in on memecoins, stablecoins and other crypto ventures while they are in office.
Several of the Democrats had $10M in crypto money either spent to boost them or tar an opponents, including Schiff ($10M slagging Katie Porter), Gallego, and Slotkin.
Gillibrand also has taken on the role of DSCC chair, which makes her the Senate D's fundraiser in chief.
Ouch. @schiff.senate.gov, this is damning. This is the 100% WRONG time to advance a crypto bill in an environment that has already driven a dagger through the heart of liberal democracy. I had no idea you were so corruprable. I regret that i didn't vote my conscience #KatiePorter in the primary.
Crypto super pac announced earlier this year they already have $116M banked for the midterms. Given that the crypto companies and holders have literally trillions at stake, that number could, and probably will, go much higher.
I think it's easily Gillibrand. Schumer sucks because he's an awful party leader, but if he is relegated to being a rank and file, then he's pretty average (so still not that great)

No wonder they don’t act like an opposition party.

GILLIBRAND needs to RESIGN. Traitor
Gillibrand and Schiff. Bought and paid for.
Doesn't mean they're immune from criticism, though. Or primary challenges.

I should have been clearer.
Is there a list of businesses selling goods and/or services using thether available somewhere?

Gillibrand is a crypto clown.
Look at Gillibrand's campaign contributions: https://www.opensecrets.org/members-of-congress/kirsten-gillibrand/contributors?cid=N00027658&cycle=2024&type=I
AIPAC, NorPac, Coinbase, Andreessen Horowitz. And be sure to change the date to 2022 too!

Jeffries is from the same Brooklyn dem machine as Eric Adams if you can believe it
the bar to clear to be in the better half of U.S. government at this point is “not being a rapist”
Further more, I think you KNOW all that and are just practicing being a cunt just like Gillibrand.
Then there were seven more.
Most of it was partisan crap. But Gillibrand made the most of it because Franken was making a name for himself as a good legislator.
Sigh. So real.
This a promise for a future bailout that the peons will pay for.
Again.
The rest are rabidly feathering their nests while our rights burn.
Good to know at least.

Crypto scammers just want a taste of that sweet “save the system” bailout money.
Sure, it’s corrupt and decadent — but is it really any worse than the ponzi finance complex that’s built around housing?
New York voters need to pull their heads out of their asses. Now.
(And neither she nor Schumer have had any notable opposition recently)
So far it’s been a choice between her and some even worse Republican, a lose-lose scenario. The options have not exactly been great.
I can only think of times she’s been horribly wrong.
It only exists to either purchase illegal items (drugs, kiddie porn) that would get you caught if you used a credit card, or it props up a Ponzi scheme like Trump is running to siphon funds from people.
Imagine if by leaving your car idling, a bunch of sudokus were solved. And then you used those solved sudokus to buy heroin.
Well played!
Dems are the enemy. Collaborators, appeasers, and cowards.
