Jake Richards (Labour), "Free movement of people was a free market experiment that people didn't like"
Actually, I quite liked free movement of people. Anyone else?

It was the relentless propaganda blaming all problems on immigrants.
No they need to be closely controlled and profits for the rich maximised, to the detriment of the majority!
But FOM wasn’t an experiment any more than any other deeply thought out and debated policy decision.
There, fixed that for him.
Jake, a self made man.
Let’s experiment - REJOIN EU & let’s see!
Russian oligarchs that funded Brexit?
#RedTories
The process started by Kinnock is over...
We need a Clause IV party.
Without which we’ve lost circa 5% off GDP.
And conflate it with immigration.
The shorter path to 'success' (???) is to simply court these votes rather than, I dunno, try and win the massive amount of people that don't vote because of behaviour like this.
Going on their breaks to Spain & Portugal. Wandering round beaches that had Brit bars & greasy spoons.
So glad they took all the culture I used to love exploring away from us.
But as usual this is disingenuous bollox.
“Free movement” is actually the FOUR freedoms of:
Goods
Services
Capital &
Labour
From which we profited greatly.
You couldn’t have one without the others & it’s what made the EU countries work together for prosperity.
We used to pay £13 billion a year to the EU but got £4 billion back from EU funded projects
So that's a loss £23 billion a year

I’ve lived & worked abroad, mainly in EU for >15 years.
I first worked abroad in the days of Thatcher / Major, I was briefly back watching interviews about the Chunnel which was being constructed.
People wearing the blinkers of discrimination / fear of what they didn’t know…
Ffs tell people that, Starmer/Cooper etc
Duplicitous in the extreme.
Objective polling puts the majority of people in the ‘pro EU’ category and yet they spout this nonsense claiming the opposite.
Government’s credibility is currently shot through with holes and the more of this stuff it does, the worse it will get.
Brings to mind the famous QT audience member who said something like...
"Me and my husband are so sick of the immigration here that we have decided to go live in Spain"
Brexit in a nutshell.
Off topic:
Love your pfp.
Who are these people we voted for!!!!!
Now a majority have woken up to the fact they were lied to on an industrial scale to secure what was an "advisory" referendum.
The EU freedom of movement of workers helped companies to get best talent and helped best talent to find the best job.
Therefore increasing opportunities for working people and therefore higher productivity and bigger economy by £100 billion per year.
Like an abusive parent or partner.
Borders are a social construct.
Jake can fuck off. It's crap like this that resulted in me binning my membership.
He looks and sounds like a Tory…
And either way, he is wrong.
This is the sort of disingenuous drivel I'd expect from the likes of Francois or Hannan.
I think they expect that people who don't will just be too scared of social disapproval to say anything.
EEC members implemented FoM in 1968, the UK five years later.
Only a full fat brexiter calls a 57 years long mutual agreement an 'experiment'.
It's clear Labour will never bring FoM back, nor allow another referendum (since rejoin might well win it).
Quite different to the 700k now, no ability to send anyone back and no rights to work anywhere.
I preferred the experiment tbh
450 million in the EU (mostly) like it.
He's talking Faragism
Why doesn't he just join his party and be done with it
Ohh and yes I'm very fond of freedom of movement and hope to see its return one day.
political careerist MPs with no other lived experience make a very blinkered shallow pool to feed policy making & implementation - it becomes a game of mates
@jakerichardsmp.bsky.social
It is one of the most successful free market initiatives along with the creation of the EU internal (single) market.
This sounds like sour grapes.

😡 How dare they! How bloody dare they make assertions like that?
If they thought FOM would win more votes they'd be all over it.
If labour was a movie, it would be a crime caper where a bunch of con men try to stay one step ahead of the law.
And for most of human history we were a migratory species.
