All this talk of how BlueSky is just a liberal comfort zone but over on the other place, former cabinet ministers are getting hyped about a petition to re-run the general election.

It’s mental on there. On my “for you” is a mixture of bots, right wing influencers who actually know better, and loony follower believers spreading this suggestion over and over that the government is about to fall because of this petition.
Meanwhile, Dan Hodges appears to be the one man army trying to explain to them that’s not how it works, getting increasingly frustrated. He’s also now being accused of MSM, lefty etc.
Though, he’s getting a lot of engagement. If he pays for that blue tick himself he’s in the money.
Honestly check it out! He’s fighting a one man war to teach a mixture of bots and right wing superfans democratic procedure. Like I say, with the engagement either him or the Mail are probably making a packet. But I don’t think that is his motive, he seems genuinely frustrated by the absurdity.
I’m not a fan either and certainly rarely agree with him. But I don’t think he’s a bad person. He’s just a right wing journo who usually writes right wing copy. He’s not of the new absolute nonsense world.
i suspect bots as it's pretty unusual for a petition to go up so rapidly in such a short time. Far more worthy causes that are heavily promoted struggle to get to 10,000 let alone up to 100,000 signatures.
The 2019 petition to revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU got 6.1 million signatures. In 2016 a petition to hold a second referendum got 4.2 million votes.
Obviously they will be calling to have the 2nd referendum first, given how many signatures those petitions got. It's not like these former cabinet ministers would be massive hypocrites.
Well, no. I don’t believe so. In this situation, he’s relaying facts that he’s probs discussed with his bf Andy Street, who has far more integrity, for a Tory.
Yes, mad petition, along with other toxic nonsense on X, but I really am seeing mostly liberal media being shared here, and posts voicing legally protected beliefs slapped with “intolerant” labels. I’m worried both places could end up splitting into US-style tribes - very concerning for democracy.
It looks like a petition that was hacked using bots. The guardian was correct in not drawing attention to what appeared to be a cyber hack. Is this the start of Kremlin backed cyber warfare? It’s troubling.
It's like a massive 'twitter storm' from the past. I'm fairly sure I remember from last elections and referendums something about respecting the result.
One of the last things I read this evening was a Conservative-supporting account making the point the petition was ridiculous and being shot down in flames by in nearly all the replies (mostly blue tick accounts).
It’s laughable but highly dangerous that MPs & some unelected lords are encouraging a truly undemocratic poll. If Kemi wants to put her stamp on the party she should haul a few into her office for a dressing down.
Trouble is, this type of crap trickles down into everyday conversation. Bloke at work believes the last GE result can be annulled and re run, and (importantly) how long before R4 Today runs with the story (for example)?
I saw something about this on a local forum - one of the very rightwing posters was tremendously excited about it (as she has been after the farmers’ protest and Trump’s election).
I am completely bemused. What exactly do they think the Government is going to do in response?
Someone on there is saying all over the place that the king has to listen to the will of the people and dissolve parliament. Would like to think he's trolling, but I think he's serious! 🫣😅
Edwina Currie is one of those people who can often be really irritating - but is sometimes 100% right - often when attacking others on the right of the political spectrum.
Well if you were a #Tory MP (or ex MP; some Cabinet Ministers lost their seats eg Keagen & others ran scared eg Gove), you'd probably want to re-run GE2024 😉
Or more realistically anything to distract from coming to terms with just how badly your party did...
Even then, a petition boosted by international malinfluencers isn't an election. It's just a debate in a Parliament with a very large and new government mandate.
It’s really quite depressing people of that calibre can become elected MPs really. They’re just not serious people or at least not people that can be taken seriously. I suppose most canon fodder doesn’t really need to be terribly serious or indeed sentient
It's really depressing how unstatesmanlike and how unserious they are. It's embarrassing. Starmer wasn't wrong when he said Badenoch was giving a master class in student politics. The Lib Dems are a far more credible opposition.

"Everything, is that enough?" and "Are you REALLY this ill-informed. Where'rve you been?????"
So I'm afraid to say I'm none the wiser!
Though, he’s getting a lot of engagement. If he pays for that blue tick himself he’s in the money.
It's almost enough to make me feel bad for Dan. Almost
Lol
We go where we feel comfortable.
They like being lied to on X.
We like being decent people here.
X:
Is there any reason why you have not named them?
I think we need to know (without visiting you know where)
