A lot of people travel 80 with McPhee’s books.
So many ways to think about geology. Archer’s “Long Thaw” is fun for climate.

One of Robert M Hazen's Great Courses (linked) is super long, goes into every "era" in detail, but not too academic. A much shorter version is his book The Story of Earth.

And for an entertaining overview of how we came to know what we know, Bryson is a classic read needing very little updating.
