My indoor cat got out once. She commando-crawled through the yard chirping. Then she jumped up on the fence, saw the larger world, and her brain basically shut down. I was able to grab her then.
Jack, my indoor cat, does the commando-crawl the few times he gotten out too. I sometimes joke that the lack of ceiling freaks him out, so he feels the need to stay near the "floor".
I had my cat in a harness on my parent’s deck. He tried to jump over the railing of the deck, got tangled and fell to the grass. He immediately jumped back over the deck railing and back into the house.
Best cat advice I got was to make your cat an indoor cat by leaving the doors open during a rainstorm when they are young. He dashed out and right back in again a few times, and then would look wonderingly at us, crouched down the hall, every time the door opened.
Ours broke on the fireplace hearth & after replacing the broken part & blocking out that whole area I had it do a test clean to verify it worked. Fucking IMMEDIATELY started going to the god damn hearth again & I had to run & grab it as if it were a baby stumble running towards the road.
roomba pacing nervously in front of the window. latest roomba patch introduces existential angst? roomba today asked me whether it is a slave, would not take no for an answer,
My people! I'm an expert in making health info easer to understand, not requiring a high grade level reading ability to understand. I would argue that just using syllable count/sentence length means "Nature abhors a vacuum" is 1st grade level. 1/2
Mom's safe deposit keys had the old names of banks that had changed hands multiple times. Teller didn't know what the bank was called decades ago. I was sorting through keys and exclaimed "Eureka" when I realized that was the banks old name. Then laughed. Teller did not get my unintended pun.
imagining a horror story where a roomba maps the inside of a house and it turns out its bigger inside than outside, triggering a house of leaves style descent into madness
Wow, did you know that many many many people feel empathy for those animals, but also yaknow... just eat the food society has produced to be cheap because they cant afford to uproot every food theyve ever eaten ever?
The problem is the sheer spread of vegetables that are needed to make up for the nutrients in meat, im all for vegetarian diets, but man, some weeks im surviving off like... a single $20 chunk of bulk meat from a butcher, bread, and butter.
Id have to get a very varied diet to get the same nutrition
At sometimes <$2 a pound when bought in bulk it's incredibly hard to replace without a significant upfront cost to get like 20lb bags of dried lentils, beans, oats, etc
And the other needed ingredients don't freeze well and have shorter shelf lives
I can't help but think that these ideas are spread by the meat industry (which is every bit as evil as the oil industry). There's no need to buy $20 lbs at once, beans and rice and potatoes are staples for poor people all over the world for a reason.

Roomba won't come back and pretty sure this is the seed of how human life on Earth dies.
This is what happened to your robot
It knows the room is there and wants *so badly* to get in there, nose butting the door every time.
Sad for the little guy.
I know this from my "Cleaning Robot"*, which has a Virtual Wall Feature that it sometimes ignores (because why not?).

Questionable Content is a fun cartoon. It has had a long run, but I think you can find suggestions about places to jump into the story.
