As someone who is intending to watch Andor but still hasn’t gotten around to it; the roadblocks are:
1) we don’t have D+
2) there has been SO much Star Wars content I’ve not bothered with, I’ve a nagging fear that I need to know a bunch of stuff from other series to enjoy Andor (thanks, MCU)

I've been trying to figure out why Andor — a prestige series set in the Star Wars universe — hasn't captured casual viewers while similar genre shows like Game of Thrones and Last of Us were able to do so.
Is it Star Wars fatigue? Has the brand become synonymous with mediocre output?

Thats it.
It's GOOOOOD
But somehow as to *depth* it gains something fascinating from the original three movies, I think. I am constantly thinking of the medals scene A New Hope. Perceiving the shallowness.
I keep on thinking about how oh, of course, it was always called "The Empire" and we never thought about what an empire does. How an empire works.
It also marked the end of the “let’s watch this for the 19th time” era which, thankfully, she was more into Ghibli than straight Disney
B) It's actually better if you've seen less. Maybe Rogue One, but it's extremely well-written. (BBY means Before Battle of Yavin [Star Wars ep. 4 - the original movie])
Does it reference other series? Sure. But in an Easter egg, if you know you know way.
Old guy here saw 77 Star Wars 3 times in theaters
Less is more
But if you are not into the franchise at all, don't bother.
If you’re not already super into it, there’s no clear, compelling place to begin in this jungle of Content
Plus the episode Serkis guests in is astounding
If you want an on point to see if you like "the good stuff", Andor is excellent, S1 is complete standalone, and S2 sets up Rogue One then the 1977 film absolutely perfectly
Several of the cast deserve awards
I saw Star Wars for the first time as an adult, so I have no real nostalgia for it, and it, more than most, feels like a franchise that requires that association to be enjoyed.
(Thanks MCU. *tired sigh in Captain American fandom* )
At this point I reserve attention w SW / MCU to works that are internally consistent enough to stand alone. Maybe I don't get *all* the references and implications - but I should be able to enjoy 90% of the material in front of me.
So:
Andor S1
Andor S2
Rogue One
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back (if you’re OK with unresolved cliffhangers)
…and that’s it. These are, in my worthless opinion, the only truly essential entries in that heap
But hey, if you wanna borrow my D+ log in, let me know.
god there is nothing more exhausting than reading a run of some eighties superhero stuff and having a good time when suddenly it's MegACRoSSOVEr TImE and three issues are just utter nonsense
You just have to accept the Star Wars setting to get the lessons haha
You just have to have seen the OT and the PT, which I presume you have
Have watched Rogue One & Solo, I like the idea of standalone stories in the setting, and Andor works with no knowledge at all
As does Skeleton Crew, which is great
Laptop and HDMI if you want to hook it directly to the tv.
There are some nods, but nothing you need to know.
The only real thing to know is that BBY means Before Battle of Yavin (the original movie)
I appreciated how Thunderbolts* actually felt like it gave us enough about most of the characters (except Ghost) in its own run time to work, too. Been a long time since Marvel did that.
