I think I remember a Star Trek novel written in the 90s that retconned the original Enterprise's switches and dials as being due to a backlash like this. Feels pretty prescient now
and a big bakelite knob labelled ARB. SET in perfect sans serif but the labels for the settings are worn off and all you know is it hums in a comforting way in the middle but is too quiet or buzzy at the extremes
Chuckles! At least a return to reliable working products like we used to have…remember when we used and pushed buttons that worked the first time you touched them.,. Remember that!
I want Analog electronics back. Bulky yes. Reliable equipment! Large capacity toner… television that doesn’t give me a fucking headache every day. Analog television did not cause dry eyes 👀 symptoms. My eyes hurt. My head hurts from digital technology exposure.
This is why I love my KitchenAid nespresso machine. Its solid metal like the mixers, and after you put in the pod you get to pull a giant lever. It feels like operating heavy machinery to make coffee
And the voting booth. I’m sure optical scanners provide faster results but the lever that tallied your votes and opened the curtain was so much more satisfying than filling in little ovals with a Sharpie
Suddenly cranks and levers would be too much of a culture shock for the kids.

Let's start with mouse and keyboard controls for phones.
Stereos with equalizers with 30 different sliders to make imperceptible changes to the sound. Ahhh the good old days, when stereo systems and not guns were the overcompensation for shortcomings…
I want to pull more levers in day to day life. And cannot think of the last time I pulled a levee for anything side maybe putting my car into gear, and that makes me sad.
I want grown up Busy Box. Dials. A light switch. Knobs. A crank. A slider. Maybe a deadlock lock. I’d just sit and fiddle with it while watching TV and reduce my screen time by 75%
Banks and banks of humming machinery
I've never seen so many knobs
We're going to have to do something Charlie
Try pushing that button there
No, how about that one
No, not that one either
I know, I'll try pushing this one
Hold my hat, would you?
There's a good fella

Original bop it though… I was a champion

To The Dibnahverse!
