Unpopular opinion. A good quality hot cross bun should be eaten as is, not toasted and no butter. Bad hot cross buns need toasting to disguise their inadequacy.

Oh to be able to eat a good quality hot crossed bun with no butter or a sub par hot cross bun toasted with butter.
I wouldn’t care I would just gobble them all up!
I can appreciate this, I also like the occasional well-spiced fruit hot cross bun without toasting or adding butter.
Sadry, few make them with appropriate levels of spice to hold flavour.
As has been mentioned before - the item is called a HOT cross bun. I believe hot means that when you add the butter it melts and therefore it is perfection 😋
The best way to have a good hot cross bun is to heat in the airfrier - low heat, 3 min.
Outside nice and warm and crispy, inside cool so butter doesn't doesn't melt.
And butter is the law, Bruce.
They're not "cross buns". They're HOT cross buns. In order to be true to the nomenclature, they must be heated (preferably toasted because they didn't have microwaves back in the day, plus ew).
Oh come on, eating a piece of bread is different to eating toast. A raw hot cross bun of high quality and freshness can be nice but it will never be as good as lightly toasted and dripping melted butter 🤤
Ok, I stick with drying out then. I mean that's the entire point of toasting, to remove moisture from bread. You may as well just go buy stale dry buns.
Not all the way through though. You’re just crisping the surface. You’re not making hot cross croutons.
If you don’t like a bit of crisp then I have no problem with anyone steaming their buns to warm them up. Cold buns is my issue here.
Yes, it will be delicious - home-made - fresh out of the oven - spicy, fruity and freshly baked is no substitute for toasted chaff. Both versions of course require lashings of butter.
When one of @juliefairey.bsky.social's junior associates were around for a playdate with my lad, that is what he requested from Daily Bread. Offered to toast and/or butter it for him, declined.
I personally think it's the only time butter doesn't taste like greasy shit, but horses for courses eh?

It's going to be huge!
'Fake it till you make it' is our national obsession

HCBs are simply butter-delivery mechanisms, designed to hold as much melting butter as possible.

You are so wrong.
(Also hot cross buns are best with butter and brown sugar)

There's always one...
