RETROGRADE - A catalogue from from a future that never was!
Comments
All items will have a description that hints at the world this catalogue comes from.
It will feature a whole range of products fit for the home of the future! Tv's, Sound systems, toasters, telephones and everything you can think of all illustrated in this style.
All the text is written by @theopriestley.com
Please let me know what you all think, would you be interested in buying something like this? I think it would be fun and also a bit different from the usual art book. Cheers for reading!
If you want to influence an entire generation and create a movement toward retrofuturism devices, this ainβt a bad place to start.
I really adore these designs. Iβm game if you do it.
I may be an extremely niche target audience, because I loved looking at catalogues as a kid, and I love faux-documentation of imaginary things, and this scratches both of those itches and I love it!
WANT TO HAVE
WANT TO READ
WANT TO GIVE AS GIFTS
Love an artbook with a meta.
TBH this is the kind of retrofuture visual aesthetic I imagine when listening to @podcu.be
Even if I can't get it, I already want to make 3d models of the designs you have!
Can't wait to see what you come up with.
sigh...
I'm in.
But Iβll be honest, I can only cheer you on until I find steady work again.
Sometimes twitch streamers don't archive π
Hell yeah!
And yes, an art-book sounds amazing!
I'd enjoy it best if it leant more on to the description side than the having-a-story side, as my magpie brain will enjoy picking out the items I like the most and imagining their story
The past / present concepts blending together is a great way of re-exploring technology and design and our connections to the things we create and how we use them. it could even respark interest and adoption in tech we once discarded in the pursuit of modernism.
Love me some good cassette futurism
Have you ever seen 60s/70s British car brochures?. Not quite the same thing, but they came in so many cool and unique layouts. Might be good for inspo π
I've gotten burned by Kickstarters to the point that I never back them anymore. I'll back this one. I love the aesthetic, and I love this kind of world building!
KS is a way to confirm that people mean what they say, should you run the KS to judge that but be honest about potentially long timelines?
I wish you well with the project π
Iβd be down to see a book of this
Have you thought about posting on r/cassettefuturism its fairly active. I'd message the mods and ask first because I know some subs hate self promo stuff
