Yes I think the South End is probably 2-3 times larger than what I highlighted (and we should upzone all of it 🤫)

Yes, just a quick and dirty illustration that I wanted to do since watching that video (which has a similar one for Vancouver)

not to mention the obvious way in which Canadian housing policy has contributed to a resurgence in xenophobia, expressed openly in the form of rabid racism on social media (especially toward South Asians), and as more nebulous forms of nastiness toward people perceived as outsiders

of course street harassment still exists in Toronto and Vancouver but at least in a multicultural city you can blend in to an extent, which is famously not the case in Nova Scotia with the way it defines locals and "come from aways"

Yes, and due to the grade difference the ramp is invisible from the COLT.

In case anyone is reading this and doesn't know the safe way: it's the ramp at the end of Elliott Street!

Others take Mumford Road (also a car sewer) because that's what Google Maps recommends. This is why the extension of the Bayers Road MUP is important: it isn't enough that cycle routes exist; the routes must also be legible, direct, and intuitive. The Bayers MUP should lead naturally to the COLT.

RIP to the Farine Five Roses of the North End

just wait until they extend the bikeway through the unexpectedly idyllic residual space next to the highway off-ramp 🚲🌞🌈🍃

Amazing, thank you!! I have no memory of any of this, I guess because our regular family travel patterns didn't bring us to this part of the city. I had no idea there was an Ultramar there.

It does sound so weird, I wish there was video of it!

I'm on the HCC's Advocacy Committee and this is the first I've seen this. I guess it's just one person's commentary (but of course in publishing it, HCC may fairly be seen as endorsing it). I don't think this should have been published without some heavy, heavy editing at the very least.

This little retaining wall is on account of the increased elevation of the newly rebuilt street, a flood mitigation measure (flood photo posted by Halifax Fire News back in 2023)

Maybe they haven't updated the data since this one was removed a few years ago

where else am I supposed to park when I commute into the city for my daily scone

The ones by Doyle St? I was wondering if that was intended to placate the owner of Steve-O-Reno's, who thought that the bike lane would hurt business.

and here's the Bids and Tenders page: halifax.bidsandtenders.ca/Module/Tende...

On the HRM Bids and Tenders website, but in case you don't want to register for that (which I think they require to view the documents), here's a zip folder with the drawings: drive.google.com/file/d/1LV_P...

the drawings also show a mid-block crosswalk leading to the Scotia Square pedway, a nice touch

Good point about how the changes affect the % completed. Segments have also been added (such as the Marlborough Woods MUP, or the Robie Street MUP next to Gorsebrook Park, which is missing from that map). The Charles St LSB is very short in that map which I hope is just an error.

Maybe the intention was to replace the two routes with the new, single route and I just didn't grasp that at the time. But I think it's unfortunate to lose Albro Lake as I liked the potential to extend it to Lancaster Ridge and the new developments along Woodland.

The information report at the Transportation Standing Committee this Thursday shows the old map with the Albro Lake Road bike lane, however such a project is missing from the implementation table in the same report. Was the Albro Lake/Leaman Dr bikeway formally cancelled and I just missed it? (4/4)
comment in response to post
But something I missed until now is that the Albro Lake Road/Leaman Drive route is not present on recent official maps, such as the one appearing in the May 1 "State of the Network" presentation, which shows only one bike route through Dartmouth North. (3/4)

bike lane on Albro Lake Road leading to a local street bikeway (LSB) on Leaman Drive. The confusing route was later replaced with a much more legible proposal (below) for a bike lane along Farrell, Victoria, and Highfield Park Dr, which is great. (2/4)
