In other news ... looks like Danny Boyle's "28 Years Later" has done well on its opening weekend, grossing $60 million worldwide. Follow-up in already in the can, but third has yet to be financed so box office success will likely lead to Sony giving the thumbs up.

My wife put her sunglasses on her head. Our dog moved slightly.

Useful for some scenarios, for sure.

In the works, says the reviews I’ve read.

It might become the main camera app I will use for landscapes. It’ll leave lots of texture in the sky and capture lots more detail. HDR on steroids. The bracketing technique is what I use in my drone photography (I smoosh afterwards, with 5 images.)

App’s potentially most interesting feature is that it promises to take out reflections from photos taken into or through glass surfaces. So, could be ideal for photographs through train windows.

Another Pi Indigo zoom image. Rothbury down below to the left.

The app takes 30+ images (some underexposed, some just right and some overexposed) and smooshes them together to get an evenly lit image. Bit like iPhone camera, but with more images.

Have you checked whether the National Cycle Archive already has copies? If not, have you thought of donating them at some point in the future? Archive is run by the Cycling History Educational Trust? I'm a trustee. www.nationalcyclearchive.org.uk/trust/

It sets the pace in the trailer but not really in the film.

Yes. Just noted that mistake.

And I made a mistake above, as some have pointed out. The first film was “28 Days Later.” The sequel to that one was “28 Weeks Later,” which wasn’t a Boyle production and is said to be inferior.

Oh, and yes, the jarring “Boots, boots” audio is in “28 Years Later” although arguably used more effectively in the trailer (which now has 28 million views): youtu.be/mcvLKldPM08?...

Apple did not pay Doyle to use iPhones for “28 Years Later.” However, there *is* a new short that was filmed with iPhone 16s. It was released yesterday and stars Stormzy.

D’oh. Yes, true. And I haven’t seen that one. Meant to be not so good.

Film is, of course, gory in parts but don’t let that put you off. Can you tell much of it was shot with a bank of iPhone 15s? Nope. Just lots of beautiful cinematography.

There are bicycles in the film. There are also lots of Geordie accents and even a rendition of Blaydon Races. There’s also a role for the Angel of the North, and the sycamore gap tree. It lives!
comment in response to

It ends oddly, and that’s clearly because of the follow-up movie filmed at the same time, believed to be called “Bone Temple.”

I won’t give too much away. For a start, the film is excellent, as you’d expect from Danny Boyle. It’s surprisingly tender in parts.

And, no, I won’t ever reveal how I got behind the NDAs to confirm the use of iPhones and thereby nail my scoop.

Yes, I always use @seatsixtyone.bsky.social The ferry is cute, but takes longer. If you book train tickets on Omio you can pay a little extra for insurance and you'll not be stranded if there's a massive connection snafu (train guards are usually understanding of missed connections, but still ...)

I'm paying to watch the movie. I wasn't invited to the premiere—the production crew had all signed NDAs to not reveal the film was shot with iPhones so I don't think my scoop when down too well. Anyway, I'll report back with a review soon.

Last night I rewatched the original movie in the series, "28 Weeks Later." It was shot on camcorders, and despite being lo-res looked fine on an iPhone. The film has been largely unavailable for years but now BBC iPlayer now has it: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

And in early, too. Left Hamburg at 8am and now pulling into Newcastle at ten to eleven. #stayontheground

Left Hamburg at 8am. Arriving into London at 7pm. Still got another three hour train journey, but not until 8pm so everything so far has been worked to plan.

Now on board Eurostar to London. No notification of any delays so still on for an 11pm-ish arrival into Newcastle.

All seats booked and it’s standing only in all carriages so I’ll buy a coffee and sit in the on-board cafe. Saves about €1.50 on last-minute seat reservation.

Train 10 minutes late into Köln but no sweat because I have a half hour buffer for the connection to Brussels. Meanwhile, quick walk around the Dom. The person in the panda suit must be sweating cobs!

Train from Hamburg to Hannover got in 8 minutes late on an already tight connection but, after legging it I made to train to Köln with a minute to spare. Paid €5.50 for a seat reservation so I can now work for 3+ hours. And breathe…

Leaving Hamburg. If I hit all connections I’ll be back in Newcastle at a little after 11pm. Train to Hannover is delayed, though. By one minute.

I haven’t seen any data on that. However, I've been to major climate conferences where plenty of people have flown. And I find that deeply weird.
