They could make the west coast rivalries a bit better if they lean into the As moving to Vegas. A’s-dbacks, LAD-SF, LAA-SD, SEA-Col

Im not agreeing with the premise re Biden, but isn’t the point that while the Rs regained the presidency post-Obama their candidate ended up being Trump. IOW, the R leadership discredited themselves because they didn’t disown Bush’s albatross policies and Trump did

Fair enough. I guess if at first you don’t succeed bomb and bomb again
comment in response to

To be fair, the order to CENTCOM was probably to bomb them back into the Stone Age.
Also, if a few weeks of bombing Houthis means we don’t have munitions to fight China over Taiwan, we really shouldn’t get involved in that fight.

Deep cut on the Neighbors pick. Gotta assume Bradgley (and maybe Peña) would be ahead of him. With how stacked the pen is, I’d be Neighbors would have to absolutely dominate to jump ahead unless the Padres trade from the pen to shore up LF

The people of West Virginia did. They just thought it was going to happen to dark-skinned people.

You jest, but given the extremism running through high level American Catholics (Vermule, alito, JDV, Barr, etc) I would think that the risk of a schism if a “lefty” pope is elected are significant

Thanks! After Trump won in 2016, I read books about the 1848 revolutions, but that’s not what we’re going through now so looking for a different historical framework

I’d prefer the Padres do this, but David Peralta had a 115 wRC+ last year and is freely available

Aren’t you missing the upside component on the foul bunt and then swing away scenario? Those don’t always turn into outs as is assumed by the formula. Some will be productive outs (captured by the successful sac bunt) and maybe 20% will be GW hits. Some will lead to 1st and 3rd

Lol. The mariners publicly stated their commitment to mediocrity and they will blame the players (and fans) when that fails to generate shareholder value

The worst part is that the idiots running the govt think that is a compliment.

The answer is that it’s both. Enough of the party is deeply MAGA that a 50/50 split (at least in the house) isn’t unreasonable to me.

Shohei Ohtani is the first Japanese-born player to lose a 3-game NBA parlay during a regular-season MLB game at the Tokyo Dome. TBF, I didn’t see the Warriors losing to Denver without Jokic either.

Completely agree re the students. Columbia has made clear that they will certainly not try to help and will probably actively harm their students if they see any benefit to the university.

Seems like Maldonado has a real shot to make the OF roster in SD, either as the backup or 3rd catcher. Not a good sign for Campusano…

Also agree on the TV thing, but maybe Manfred shouldn’t have stood idly by as the As destroyed their franchise and suddenly decided to spend once they had moved. Passan could have blamed him for that even if in reality the commish is just a sock puppet for the owners’ collective greed
comment in response to
post
Agree. It is notable that two teams don’t have parks and he mentions this has happened before for various reasons. But beyond historical exegesis, there is no clear point nor is there a claim that this is simply a temporary coincidence that will fix itself.
comment in response to
post
And he says Manfred has been a successful commish because of the pitch clock?? Totally ignores one lockout and a pending disastrous lockout while the league loses TV partners left and right
comment in response to
post
And beyond that, the reason these teams don’t have stadiums is because they have been conditioned/encouraged to expect a significant public subsidy (via $ or land) for their private enterprise. The politics on this may have changed, but MLB’s strategy hasn’t which is really why they are in MILB park
comment in response to
post
The whole premise is just weird. Sure Tampa has an unsettled stadium, but they’re only in a minor league park because a hurricane destroyed their existing park and blew up the new stadium deal as collateral damage. The A’s situation is different but that owner destroyed the franchise for years

lol. Some dickface from south Texas law has thoughts and this rag decides they’re newsworthy. I hated him less when he focused on destroying the 14th amendment instead of the entire constitution.

Does this mean Eguy or Wade won’t make the roster? Iglesias is somewhat duplicative of Eguy but much better than Wade.
comment in response to
post
Arraez is an awful 2B but he’s equally awful at 1B, so I guess playing him at 2nd is optimal in a vacuum. On a better constructed roster he would be a DH. On this team, he’s obviously a 1b
comment in response to
post
In a way, I guess I don’t care. We’ve decided to carry Wade for just the “Vibes” since we don’t trust him to play short and he can’t play OF. To banish eguy for that would just suck. Eguy should platoon with crone and give manny lots of DH days (which is why we sort of only need a lefty DH platoon)
comment in response to
post
Carrying Wade or lockridge over Eguy is a crime

Im not advocating this position, but if the Russian army is generationally degraded our ongoing self interest in the outcome of the war can be said to be reduced/eliminated. Put another way, our ROI on future funding will be lower than past funding and we should find more attractive investments

Sure but we’d still be in the tax and ownership isn’t willing to do that. Had we done this earlier, we could maybe have signed a righty OF and solano and stayed under the tax line but it’s harder now.

That this dynamic essentially already played out in 2023 (which both sides lost) adds a fun layer of game theory

Profar’s FA was always going to be fascinating bc he provides the most value to SD (on-field, in clubhouse and personally to AJ) and wants to be paid accordingly but curiously Profar is the one player the Padres refuse to overpay and no other team has reason to do so.

Less likely. Sasaki will want some commitment to not tear it down. Also sasaki doesn’t fill a hole in the rotation, so trading cease for a more controllable SP would still leave us with 1-2 empty spots.

Right. As a Padres fan, that sort of leaves us with no good options which is where the Padres have been for their entire history, except the Peter Seidler era

Even then, my question is why file the lawsuit before Roki makes a decision rather than after. She’d still have time to whip the votes on the control person vote and might have Roki on the team if she’s successful. This looks like someone who’s going to burn it down to get her way
