You will miss him terribly! Our “Best Boy”, Dyson, still comes to my thoughts every day. Five minutes before I read about Bode, I was thinking about him riding shotgun in our Mustang convertible with a big smile on my face. Hopefully he and Bode have found each other and are having a romp together.

When I bought your first book, Hope, I had to let it sit on the shelf for quite a while before I was ready to read it through my tears. I will definitely order Tina but will have to read it when no one is around to see my red swollen face. You and your people are truly inspiring!

Oh, Niall, I have such a strong reaction to all of your happy endings! I’ve literally got goosebumps! Well done, Larry!

Oh my God, we spent five weeks in Florida this winter. The single use plastic is unbelievable. We grocery shopped probably five times and came home with more than 100 bags. They double bagged EVERYTHING! And not a recycling bin to be seen. Election.Putting glass and tin cans in the garbage is awful

I love all of the different colour “moods” of our beautiful Lake Huron. So many different shades of blue! Thanks for sharing from your vantage point!

We spent 10 weeks in the US last fall and winter. The cheese was AWFUL. How could it be so different?

I’ve noticed that here too. Especially strawberries. If they are labelled USA, they sit and rot, even if the price is reduced significantly.

We live in a small town with few options for household stuff, especially since our Walmart went “grocery”. Amazon was my “go to” for lots of things—even sewing thread! Haven’t placed an order since Christmas and trying really hard to keep it that way!

I’ve been finding it pretty easy here in Canada to stay away from any US products and can probably exist comfortably going forward for the rest of my life. Thank you, Mexico, for the fresh produce during our cold Canadian winters!

Hey Henry (and Chris)! This post made me miss our big dopey “boy” who would be standing chest deep in that cold water looking like a yellow hippo. Bahaha. Love the waking up sounds of spring. Thanks for sharing!

At some point, that’s gotta hurt. Are airlines going to need a “bailout”?

I think I would have thumped that piece of sh#% in the mouth on live tv if he ever put a hand on me! She was quite dignified in her response!

Don’t get me wrong, there is lots of poverty here in Canada too. And we have so many things we can improve on. But we do not call our people on Canada pensions, “vampires”! I’ve yet to see anything here like I’ve witnessed in our recent travels. Not sure anybody would be signing up for that!

It truly is a country of the haves and the have nots. In our touring around, there have been way more “have nots” than “haves”. Houses where parts of the roof had collapsed or plastic bags for windows. Cars held together with duct tape, and zip ties. The greatest country on earth? I think not!

Our economic woes? Have you ever driven through small town USA? I have never seen such poverty. It is shocking. From New Orleans, through small towns in Mississippi and Alabama, and away from the tourist areas in Florida the living conditions are horrendous.

He used the term “nasty” which he usually reserves for women, especially strong women that stand up to him. Oh yeah, right! It was a strong Canadian woman and her team that negotiated “NAFTA 2.0”, Chrystia Freeland. And he did not like her one bit… Nor does Putin. So now all of Canada is “nasty”

I was naive. I had no idea that there was this much money to be made in the humiliation of humanity

I should never have opened Bluesky this morning! Everything I read sinks me deeper into despair! This story has left the tightest lump in my throat and stomach. So glad she made it out of a terrible nightmare! And now she can be a beacon of truth for the rest of us. We will never return!

I hope those people are here to support our country (or any country) when their fascist regime does try to annex us! Because, on this side of the border, it really does feel like it’s imminent!

I did too while we were visiting for 10 weeks. But it sure was costly .

Groceries used to be significantly less than those in Canada. I recently wanted to buy a box of Ritz crackers. In Canada, I can usually get 2 boxes for $5 CDN. In the states, one box was $5 US. It was a little bigger though, but not much! After exchange, that box was $7.50 CDN.

We just got back to Canada from America and EVERYTHING has gotten too expensive! I don’t know how most families are affording anything? Especially the most nutritious foods. The pre-made, pre-packaged and very processed foods are a way cheaper option.

Ugh! I hate autocorrect! I checked before I pressed the reply button and it said “Mika Munch”. It must have changed the instant I pressed the reply button!

Best part of cooking for me was tossing a carrot to our boy! I loved his crunching! My 93 year old mother in law would be in fits of giggles watching him. Both are gone now and I miss them every day. So, enjoy every “Mike munch”!

I retired from teaching in 2015. It took a VERY long time to not feel like I was “playing hooky” when I would go out in the daytime. I’d be checking over my shoulder for anyone who might be judging me. The good news is, it only takes a few years to not be “famous” when you teach in a small town.

I love you and Mary on your podcast. And I loved your Substack with Joyce. Please do more! It is so nice to see and hear the three of you in a more natural setting. And I absolutely love it when you all get lighthearted and a bit giggly. It makes me think there is hope in this crazy world.

I am really surprised how well I can do at the grocery store avoiding American produce at this time of the year. We are still eating healthy nutritious food without having to buy from the USA. For a little while, salad fixings were difficult. But now I’m finding lots of options.

Not even sure if we are both immune now. I’m particularly worried about my daughter who is at child bearing age. Could have some absolutely devastating effects on a potential fetus. Vaccinations are so important for all society! Ugh!!!
