I mean it worked if you wanted to burn things.

Not sure if it’s something you’ve seen, but I saw a website that used AI to generate videos of “historical scenes” and it was basically a weird “marvel-ification” of the topics at hand. It really sucked but the way tech bros were gushing about it sucked even more.

Okay so Flickr gives a 120kb image, but bsky just stores its own copy, which fits within the 1MB bsky size, but bsky does also generate a 63kb thumbnail which looks okay.
Now I'm fully nerd-sniped in figuring out how to post higher resolution photos :P

How does this work... Crop seems better.

Oh gosh I'm assuming Flickr doesn't really put much energy into the sharing feature. The popup says "share 1 photo" but it shares the entire photostream!
Wondering if there's a way to make it work for a single photo.

If only the cropping in the card wasn’t pure shit…

Hard agree, Having worked in the world of online photo storage, the tradeoffs made for storage and bandwidth costs all suck. Maybe there’s a way to embed photos from outside paid sources like Flickr?

If anything this shows that the job of CEO could be done by a barely useful, non-sentient computer program.

Oh hey I see my blurry pixels in the back there! Was nice to see you! I didn’t want to fully geek out in front of the bf but if I had brought my copy of your book I would’ve totally fanboy’d and asked for an autograph.

Those hydro colloidal bandages or whatever they’re called are nice for those.

Holy shit how dumb are you? Build more busses. Trains. Increase housing density. Your state is a car-centric shithole and genAI is a scam.

I’m pretty sure it’s American based but overcast is what I use and it seems to be a non-VC funded one person operation: overcast.fm/contact
I’d love to hear about your experiences moving away from US based tech companies. At this point I’m just trying to ditch big tech and VC funded but it’s hard!

Don’t have time to read the article at the moment (will definitely read later) but I’ve had the same thoughts, especially after reading/listening to the likes of Paris Marx and Ed Zitron. I work(ed) in tech and just searching for a job that doesn’t enable the “rot economy” is a tiresome endeavor.

Maybe it’s a bit idealistic, but is there a market for one gal repair/restoration shops? Or something that gets closer to working with cars without owning one? Or is it the issue of making a hobby a job sucking all the fun out of it? I’m sorta struggling with that last part with woodworking.

It’s funny because I used to think my hometown mayor was the most batshit mayor ever until I got a bit older and started to realize there was a pattern.

I feel like it started in the US with one model of ford explorer that I saw someone call “the most facist looking vehicle design”, then other companies took the idea and just scaled it up. They’re disgusting.

For real! They probably should’ve said “People were mean to me after I said some racist shit”
They always have to play the victim card, and it’s sickening how much it actually works for them 🤮

I know everything sucks, but this morning I saw this little car in Portland and was inspired by your photography to take a picture, though all I have is my phone and it’s nowhere as good as your photos.

This is the fundamental point of agreement between the American gentry class (car dealers, fast food franchise owners) and the Silicon Valley tech elite: Workers should have less power, the economy can be worse overall, but I myself should have more power to decide what happens.

Being isolated in the steel and glass cage makes people seem to not think about others around them. “Car Brain”. Most people I imagine would at least say “excuse me” when brushing by someone in a rush. In a car, the people outside cease to become people.

Even in downtown areas of “pedestrian friendly” cities I see heaps of people isolated in their steel and glass cages who don’t know how to drive and are an active risk for pedestrians and cyclists. In Portland just this weekend I’ve seen dozens of unsafe drivers running lights or not yielding.

So it’s their fault for a shutdown if they don’t negotiate to get your support, you incredibly gullible idiot. They’re already firing en masse, now you’re complicit in the chain-sawing. You’re worse than useless.

Ah okay that makes sense. Growing up I never used any transit in McAllen. These days in Washington State I can’t live without it. Enjoy some Tex-mex while you’re there! It’s been a while for me but El Pato and Taco Fiesta were always great 🌮

Serious question: Why would a transit association have a conference in one of the least transit accessible cities/metro areas in the US?

Hell yes! I’ve been wanting to do something with a model railroad but I don’t have much space. I briefly did some prototyping with 3D printing N scale talgo cars for an Amtrak Cascades layout. My hang up has always been wanting to make a loop, but a diorama makes so much sense!

Yeah. I should press on what exact scenarios they’re worried about. Most of them will result in just as much if not more misery for folks in the US if the US companies make some kind of breakthrough first.

But do they not realize the US government, or at least the oligarchs that run it want to do the exact same thing? Maybe Dario has to toe the line but I’ve heard it from others and it always makes my head go sideways.

Maybe I just don’t get it, but it seems wild to me every time someone justifies the US needing to be a leader in AI because it’s “bad” if China gets there first.
Their reasoning is always “national security” and the Chinese AI companies being an arm of an “authoritarian government”.
