I think this is basically right and it probably sounds insane, but I think the Republican Party is too.

The Democratic Party is already dead. They’re the 1850s Whigs but just don’t know it yet

Reversing Citizens United would be critical to making that happen sooner.
I might be dead then. You'll have to do it.
America has been a sucker for a demagogue since before McCarthy.
DFL's fireside chat was pandering, too.
At a leadership level they're willing to give up everything to keep from moving left because they're still afraid of Reagan's ghost.

One party has refused to adapt to the times and the other one is doing just fine at that.
Like any despot Trump has eliminated viable threats frm within which makes his regime unsustainable past his own life
Ron DeSantis is the governor of one of the largest states in the country. Won by quite a bit too.
Someone else could emerge but DeSantis doesn't have it and he ran against an ashamed Republican. Not even a centrist Dem.
The GOPs problem is that no one is Trump aside from Trump.
They're good at Walter Reed, but they're not necromancers.
If cigarettes and booze had been in the mix, we wouldn't even have to be having this conversation.
It's harder to make use of without the cult of personality element, but it's still infrastructure any potential opponent lacks.
Citizens United has removed any meaningful 'opposition' from this alleged 'opposition party'.
But, I do expect we will have formal changes to the electoral system and significant representation from new parties in Congress within the next decade.
Both parties are broken.
The profit motive rots everything.
