Where it gets tough is qbs are credited with almost all the effort involved in passing and completing the ball, when really it should be at most half the credit. For a RB to get the same credit they would need to average 12-15 ypc on 30+ carries. It’s not realistic, but voters are dumb.
Barkley is incredible & deserves all kinds of MVP consideration (he’s not gonna win it) but let’s be clear he’s not breaking the Dickerson record if he does it in the new extra week. He’s setting the single 17 game season record for the modern NFL. The extra game matters.
Then Dickerson doesn't have the current overall record either...OJ does...2003 yards in 14 games... Dickerson did not hit 2k+ until game 15 where he went for 255 yards rushing...
QBs are the most important player on the team. Think about a team while the Cowboys or Falcons with good QB play. Both of them would easily be in the playoffs with their skill players if the QB play was good.
That's why there's an Offensive Player of the Year award.
Either a structural shift in the sport so the value difference an elite QB and a replacement level QB isn’t as massive as it is now, or a structural shift in what the awards represent.
For me, the MVP is Saquon. I'm biased, but I'll say the same thing about Barry Sanders when he was in the league. He's the best overall weapon in the league and he makes qb play so much easier.
So easy he got Daniel Jones a Playoff win, and now is powering a clear SB contender.
Seahawks are out so I go with Bengals & Burrow for team to make the playoffs and QB to win the MVP. (Him winning MVP on a not-so-great overall team would be right there with Griffey on 90's Ms.)
I’m a Bills fan and want to see Allen get it but is it just me or is this chatter way too much? I wish our fan base wasn’t so focused on it and - no offense - wish the multitude of sports talk folks would shelf the topic.
I'm not a Bills fan, but I applaud what Allen has done this season. I do think they started the Allen for MVP talk a tad early, but if I had a vote, he'd get it (now, if the Bengals make the playoffs, I might switch to Burrow fwiw).
There are 4 MVP candidates in my mind. Lamar, Allen, Barkley and Henry. Nobody else should be in the conversation. And I’m a die hard Steelers fan so naming 2 Ravens HURTS. It’ll be a QB. Allen better record, but got destroyed by Ravens so will probably go to Lamar…
The biggest expectations are get to the playoffs, win and get to the superbowl, and win , especially if you've never won one , individual awards are secondary
my guy is Joe Burrow, and while I do think he deserves to be IN the conversation, I still think it's Josh Allen's to lose. Then, realistically, Lamar Jackson at 2, probably Saquon Barkley 3, as of this week.
If Joey B wins out & somehow the Bengals miraculously make the Playoffs? Then? I dunno.🤷♂️
Jags fan here. I’m just staying quiet about everything but prepared to go full back of the house if Trent and Doug come back like some late night a**holes
Burrow has to overcome not just an abhorrent defense he has to overcome his coach, his kicker and his offensive line to keep the Bengals chances alive. Give him the MVP.
My vote for the mvp would be the hotshot offensive coordinator of your choice. I'm not knocking the QBs. I'm just saying either handfuls of QBs got absurdly efficient at the same time, or it has something to do with the schemes.
How about the fact that Allen won his division with 5 games left, can sit out week 18, and currently has about a game’s less snaps (and stats) played as of today compared to Lamar and Burrow? Allen also has all the signature moments of the season when looking back on this year…
I said yesterday that Brock Bowers should be in the conversation for OROY because he literally had to deal with subpar QBs and he still broke rookie TE records.
Andy Reid 1 word response in his zoom call to reporters when asked about the return of rashee rice for the playoffs "no"...sane question about jaylen Watson gets 2 word respons "potentially yes" 🏈🏈
If ever there was a co-MVP case to be made, Lamar/Josh wouldn’t bother me at all. That might bug some folks but it’s just MVP. In the grand scheme of things, SB Champs is way more important.
That's really kind of the crux of it, isn't it? With people still nay saying Allen & the whole "most overrated" thing while he breaks records almost weekly, you get the sense there's still a bunch of MVP voters who won't acknowledge his importance because it shows they were wrong about him in 2018.
In general, I wonder why it’s so hard to admit when one is wrong when presented with all the evidence one could ever imagine. It’s crazy how people will dig in and double down on their error. Anyway…
I think 99.9999% of the media admits that they were wrong abotu Josh (and has for years now)
Arguing that its a close race btwn him and Lamar (another draft pick a lot of ppl questioned) is not at all the same thing as refusing to admit hes awesome
I have to disagree hard with you on that one, going into the season all we heard was Josh is going to have a bad year, Bills won't make the playoffs, etc.
Maybe at this point, but there were plenty before the season still insisting Diggs made Allen and Allen/The Bills were going to struggle this year without Diggs and Davis.
Hence so many who were picking the Jets and Dolphins to be AFCE contenders over the Bills.
Mina!!! Two replies in one day! I’m honored. I agree with you. Most of the media are over the “Josh is not the one” narrative. My comment was meant to be more broad. Like you, I really enjoy watching them both (except when they play each other). Thanks for the conversation.
Actually, I think it should be a tie btw Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley. If that doesn't happen, or Saquon doesn't win by himself, the NFL needs to just give it up and call this the Most Valuable Quarterback Award.

In close years it’s arbitrary. We can all see the stats and decide for ourselves!
and then we all get to go "who the fuck is that one MVP voter who made this not unanimous???"
I thought maybe Barkley might be the one to do it this year, and if he can't, what's it going to take?
If any QB has even a "good" season and their team does well, they are arguably the "MVP"
Unless there is a major rules and objectives overhaul, I don't see this changing anytime in the future.
That's why there's an Offensive Player of the Year award.
The latter is much more likely.
So easy he got Daniel Jones a Playoff win, and now is powering a clear SB contender.
I’m beginning to think Lamar might just be the best player in football, and that is influencing the cast.
🤷♂️
GENO for MVP!
If Joey B wins out & somehow the Bengals miraculously make the Playoffs? Then? I dunno.🤷♂️

How much does team record and the actual wins vs strong opponents matter to voting?
Let’s introduce the LVP (any starter, O/D) award for 2025!!!
Give the MVP to Saquon
I mean unless you can be both. 😏
