If only people would support prosecuting all politicians regardless of party affiliation. Bush and Blair? At the moment it appears that only right wing politicians are being banned (France, Romania Brazil, and attempted in USA). I’m guessing corruption in both the left/right.
but but but.... it's POLICY! he sputtered....
Policy is just that. It's NOT law. It's a process that has been found convenient. And when it becomes INconvenient, you change that policy!
There. Done.
Garlands mistake was trying to do it the conventional way prior to hiring Jack Smith. By prosecuting ground up, and leading to higher levels of criminality. Because of the huge scope that was taking too long and he ran out of time.
He was clearly sandbagging. His prosecution was not timely or competent. He seems like a smart guy, so we have to assume that he actually did not want Trump to be sentenced. The amount of time he spent doing nothing at all is inconceivable.
...for a full year after the insurrection, Garland’s team looking into January 6 “consisted of just four prosecutors working with agents with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the National Archives and Records Administration.” (Nation https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/trump-indictment-merrick-garland/)
South Korea's Yoon declares martial law Dec 3, 2024. He's arrested Jan 15, 2025 and indicted Jan 26.
Brazil's Bolsanaro supporters insurrection on Jan 8, 2023. Bolsanaro aides arrested Feb 8, 2024, Bolsanaro arrested Dec 14. Formally indicted Feb 18, 2025.
Yes, and we forgot that Trump’s winning strategy to run out the clock wasn’t openly apparent from the dawn of time and Garland just played along in every way imaginable
I am chuckling at that. Wasn’t Merrick a Supreme nominee at some point?
So he’s unaware of how the SCOTUS might handle the case and he’s unable to adapt, respond, or do anything other than dodge responsibility for failure to hold Trump accountable?
I guess I’ll add stupidity to my assessment of MG
Garland started the process too late. He should have appointed special counsel in February 2021. Instead, we lost 20 months until Jack Smith was appointed.
This right here. He went harder after Hunter Biden than he did the man who stole classified documents and left them in his bathroom. I can’t believe there are still people defending him
What a joke that was? I remember a few big accounts going on and on about all the moves Garland was making and justice is slow but don't worry and ELECTION. It's over.
What’s he doing nowadays, anyway? All the political persecutions, all the economic turmoil, all the upcoming epidemics, all the innocent people shipped to El Salvador are on his head and he’s probably kicking back, living the life of Riley.
Elon Musk defense of Marine Le Pen—convicted of embezzling €4 million from the EP—stating, “When the radical left can’t win via democratic vote, they abuse the legal system to jail their opponents. This is their standard playbook throughout the world,” is about protecting fascists who break the law.
He greenlit two indictments that would easily have reached verdict before the election without interference from Trump-friendly judges at the district and appellate levels.
Which is funny seeing that the guy not getting prosecuted didn't give a shit about norms and traditions and was busy making money left and right while in office.
Merrick Garland covered-up the Ku Klux Klan that runs the State of Illinois Department of Revenue to help a fellow Chicago Jew avoid a scandal: @govpritzker.illinois.gov
Unfortunately Garland has the courage of a mouse and delayed prosecutions of Trump. Had they occurred sooner maybe there would have been a different outcome. Of course SCOTUS could have stopped the process given the corruption that exists on the bench (Roberts, Alito, Thomas, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch)
I curse him for thinking he had to cross Ts and dot Is that didn’t even exist. The situation called for resolute legal action, not cautious, scholarly timidity.
Idiot was too afraid to do his job. Or maybe he didn’t know his job. Either way, he was a failure at his job. Should live in shame for the rest of his life
My brain is custard over the fact that the democratic party attempted to bait Republicans with Obama putting Garland on a pedestal all those years ago and ended up baiting themselves instead. Talk about shooting yourselves in the foot
He was a compromise for Obama anyway. He was told that Garland would pass a vote in the Senate then Mitch had a change of cold reptilian heart because the fix was in for Trump.
One of the biggest disappointments ever. He wasn't a supreme court justice (I still think he would have been awesome there), he was an attorney for the people. He failed us miserably and I doubt that history is going to remember his time at the head of DOJ favorably.
Garland never had the courage to prosecute Trump. He did, however, show exemplary bravery for prosecuting Hunter Biden for a minor infraction for which most people never even serve time . . . 🙄
I wish you to see and to realize, that so long as you are on your guard you have nothing to fear; but that if you are indifferent, nothing can be as you would wish
One of the reasons we don't (or won't) prosecute a criminal president is due to fear. We have guns on every street in this country. Tft the 2A has never been amended to reflect the massive change in "arms" since its inception is ridiculous. Another "it only happens here" thing due to the 2A.
Why did the trump indictments took so long? Because the democrats didn’t want a precedent that could be used against their own war criminal presidents.
I don’t say this lightly.
A colossal failure. It disgusted me when I saw him leaving the bureau that all of these people were applauding for him. I mean, he failed us miserably.
There are many Americans in positions to protect our democracy who completely failed to do their duty, but 2 of the MOST disappointing are Robert Mueller & Merrick Garland…tied for 1st place. 2nd place tie is entirely too long to list.
Merrick Garland turned out to be one of the most worthless AG's America has ever had! HE is the one that could of and should have gone after the felon. But in the end, he was a big pussy and too afraid to do the right thing. He should be in jail for incompetence and not doing his job!!
Civilized countries do not allowed fascists to participate in the democratic process. Why? WWII. Perhaps the US will join the ranks of the civilized some day.
Oh that smug scared nitwit? Milquetoast Merrick? That AG? He would run scared if he saw his own shadow. Total fraud and a total traitor and loser. I cannot stand even hearing his name spoken now.
I don’t get why Dems don’t understand that Garland was prosecuting a former president for the first time in this nation’s history with a burden of proof you couldn’t begin to imagine, and a hostile Supreme Court who did everything in their power to delay trial. It’s just… such a mystery.
I honestly don't think the Dems lost, but there are criminals all over the federal government, so we will never know the truth. We must live through a criminal SCOTUS, and President, and a very lame Congress that lives in fear of losing their seat, no sense of responsibility to constituents.
Especially a politician who lost the last election! IMHO he was smart to go from the bottom up and follow the money, but he should not have just prosecuted Trump at the top. He should have gone after all the people Fani Willis went after.
My guess is Jack Smith figured that a Republican President couldn't pardon anyone in Georgia and that the Georgia case was a slam dunk. Which it was, until they drew a Federalist Society judge and the defense slimed the prosecutors in his court.
TRUMP is the GOAT since ABE!RFK is a genius! HEGSET is a military IKE LIKE !MUSK was sent by GOD to save the USA!THE FBI leader is like HOOVER!VANCE andWIFE like CHRIS and MARY! BUTTHE GREATEST OF ALL is its April fools day andif you believe any of that crap I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you?

And jack smith is a colossal failure

March 11, 2021: Presentation to Garland on Jan 6 makes no mention of going after Trump (WaPo https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2023/06/19/fbi-resisted-opening-probe-into-trumps-role-jan-6-more-than-year/)
"[M]ore than a year would pass" before Garland *starts* investigating, and still *not Trump* specifically. 👇🏻
A FULL YEAR OF DELAY. 👇🏻
South Korea's Yoon declares martial law Dec 3, 2024. He's arrested Jan 15, 2025 and indicted Jan 26.
Brazil's Bolsanaro supporters insurrection on Jan 8, 2023. Bolsanaro aides arrested Feb 8, 2024, Bolsanaro arrested Dec 14. Formally indicted Feb 18, 2025.
Garland was a mistake. ✊🏻

Payed off by Jared Kushner
Garland wasted his 4.
Here? Treason, insurrection, espionage, rape, tax evasion, 34 felonies...
No problem.
Heck of "norms & traditions" we got going here.🙄
For all of his “I don’t want to appear political” bullshit, it earned him no good will with MAGA world at all.
Garland.
Fuck Merrick Garland.
How much time did Garland have? ⅓ of that?
He never should have been appointed.
I'm so sick of Democrats saying they're for the rule of law and for a fair wage but they never, ever stand up for it, for what we need.
We need the criminals to face justice, not a slap on the damn wrist.
We need fair pay.

🙄🤣
Yeh, Merrick Garland's failure has had horrible consequences for the US. France shows how it's done!
He could have released Vol. 2 of Jack Smith's report but chose not to.

"his brain just bonkering at the idea you could prosecute a *right-wing* politician" would be the right way to put it.
I don’t say this lightly.

Maybe we aren't so democratic after all.
