Paul Weiss presumably did what they would recommend a client to do: settle when litigation would be more costly even if you’re right. But when every institution cuts its own bargain with a tyrant, they all lose. That’s why they deserve the public shaming.

Trump also sued Perkins Coie but Perkins chose to fight. Perkins is basically a conservative firm w/many corporate clients & it hates bad press.

Headhunters are aggressively pursuing disgruntled employees now (I imagine), recruitment efforts will be more difficult, and they will lose clients.
They get rid of this awful baggage, and more importantly, are removed from this agreement which binds Paul Weiss, not New Firm, LLP.

My guess: Those partners didn't want to give up any of the additional $1 - $3+ million they pay themselves in bonuses each year.
