wait so the guy who's widely known to have a giant booze problem accidentally added the journalist to the eyes-only security chat he was conducting over a non-approved platform? wow, who could have imagined it

putting together a group text for war plans let's see i got POTUS, VPOTUS, SecDef, DNI, WH NSA and oh just for fun let's add @ronanfarrow.bsky.social aaaaand go
everyone knew when theses DEI appointments were made (DEI requirement being slavishly loyal to Trump) these were inept people.
It's only taken this long for them to show just how stupid they really are
I remeber calling my dad from overseas when the gulf war commenced. I couldn’t even tell him if I was staying on my base or being deployed (b/c someone might be listening) Good times.
It’s fucking unbelievable. Or rather, it should be. But this is Hegseth who is both too drunk and too stupid to not fuck up this badly. It won’t be the last time, either. Nobody had “war crimes group chat” on their bingo card, yet here we are. 🤦♀️
It would be extremely and ridiculously easy for Donald Trump to throw Michael Waltz under the bus and blame the entire Atlantic episode on him. Trump gets to be a tough guy and deflect blame from himself and everyone else.
What I found so egregious is 1. they CHATTED on Signal and 2. that no one noticed that a member of the chat was the editor of the Atlantic - a journalist - even /after/ he left the Signal chat group.
Somebody else set up the chat (NatSec advisor). The fiasco is more indicative of the amateurism and disdain for correctness across the entire administration. The whole administration is implicated.

Signal is as secure a chat platform as you can get accessible for the public, it's just that no level of software security can protect against layer 8 errors
If you believe for one minute that Pete Hegseth, Marco Rubio, Mike Walz and JD Vance accidentally added this rabidly anti-Trump journalist to a “national security” group chat… you’re definitely the mark.
Simply not possible. This is called media strategy and Trump is famous for stuff like this!
And all of the people on the chat with actual access to national security secrets (seems to be everyone but the journalist) willingly continued the conversation despite it being obviously illegal.
He wasn't the one who added him, it's worse than that. He's the one who shared battle operational and sensitive information on the unsecured platform. Info, that if leaked could put our warfighters in jeopardy.
In all fairness: This unsecured platform was the only thing anyone recommended for opsec lol. It's been that way for years. That said, govt themselves should be safe on signal if they were reasonably sober. The only real risk for everyone else is the phone requirement.
Who recommended for OPSEC? No one at DOD or CIA, that's for sure. No one is so stupid they'd walk around out in public lic discussing the topics except these dumb gits.
Everyone recommended it. The electronic frontier foundation, a highly trusted charity devoted specifically to online privacy, recommended Signal, for one.
Do you know anything about hacking or infosec? Be honest.
I'm seeing a white haired cis woman who has spent her entire life believing she is superior to other people, and late in life still wants to be an expert on every topic. Obviously the govt has better tools but you're lying when you say Signal wasn't a widely used and recommended tool.
That is the joke. “New phone who this” (or variants of “this”) is the anticipated response. “Old phone” and “Who was this” situates the entire exchange in the past tense for comic effect. I hope this clarifies my post.
I'm sort of relieved. In the Netherlands we thought we had the most amateur government in the world. But honestly, the US wins the prize. Guess they are great at something? 🤷

Jesse Watters even said that tonight.
Pete is Horny: “Who dis?”
Unknown Number: “Houthis.”
or is that a nervous laugh
Why else would Hegseth have Goldberg's number on his phone?

Michael Waltz, the guy they’re sending to intimidate Greenland, did it.
If he gets convicted will he be sent to gulag in El Salvador because of his gang tattoos?

But Waltz still has a job on Monday night.
