We buried seven family members last year, settled estates, attended funerals. Worst year on record. Don’t remember large parts of it including the Olympics. I don’t know if I can take it if next year is worse.
This is how they want us to feel; alone! But the fact of the matter is, they are scared that their grip on America is dying. Love will always prevail imo, but history shows there is always an atomic disaster before society gets to a higher enlightened mind state. I welcome these fucks to try me 😂😂😂
I’ve had to console my partner many times over the past couple months. We have our communities, and I hope you have a solid one around you to help bring you peace of mind and safety.
The worst part for me is having to pretend there is no figurative (for now) sword of Damocles dangling over my head when I'm at work, with family, or with friends.
Same. I created a real family rift with a friend clearing rant on Facebook the day after the election. In a nutshell I asked how they could be so stupid. I frankly do not care. They present me with “reasons” why they voted for the Melon Felon, and all I can say is “you screwed us all”.
I think I want to adopt a, not so much "playing the violin as the Titanic sinks" vibe as a "Statler and Waldorf heckling everyone as the theater burns" kinda thing.
NGL, the current MAGA civil war/Leopard Face Banquet that seems to show no sign of slowing down is wildly entertaining in a grim, slow-shake-of-the-head sort of way.
Also, you're the queen of bon mot bangers, so don't stop with that shit.👍🏾
several of which will probably accelerate climate change. like the EV bans and disincentives he's floating, switching back to burning fossil fuels at record levels, promoting inefficient land use, huge tariffs on solar panels and batteries (because they're all imported), stuff like that
That’s where my dread is coming from; it’s going to suck just as badly as I think it will, but in completely different ways from what I’m anticipating.
Unless bird flu finally makes the leap to human-to-human transmission. I think I can predict how that will go.
Awesome! That was my favourite time of year prior to moving to the desert, 9 years ago, where we have issues as well.
Yep October in Chicago is the best time of year. \ humor
I had lunch with a Turkish friend today who quoted one of their historians as saying “pessimism is cowardice”. He’s right, but optimism is very difficult to maintain right now.
Yeah, it does. But at this point I'm just trying to do the best by me and my family. Finding the things that make us happy all while understanding that a good chunk of the human population is... Well, you get the point.
I’m hanging on to the (perhaps ultimately cold comfort) of human agency & its ability to affect the course of future events in a positive way (not just negatively)
Although not being able to predict the future while in the present is often anxiety inducing, it can also be a source of hope bc no one has ever been able to predict the future at the time events are unfolding, & the worst outcomes aren’t always what ultimately happens.
Its so strange political systems in so many countries are broken or are busy breaking. Like you know you will be watching a terrible accident but can’t stop watching
Maybe, just maybe it’ll be a shitshow like the first time and comedic gold for us. At the same time, the millions who stayed home will feel the embarrassment we feel at this 🤡 posse representing us on the international stage. So embarrassed they’ll get off their asses the next time.
I wish there was some way to prepare. But a lot of it is trying to predict which of his crazy plans he’s actually going to do and when. And I don’t think even he knows.
I don't think any of them are his plans either, he's just a noise machine. Deregulation and tariffs seem to be the main points, I'm preparing for a bubble followed by depression and assuming we won't have fair elections for the foreseeable future. Fun times.
To me it’s a coin flip as to whether or not some big $ guy talks him off the ledge wrt tariffs. I’m genuinely shocked that Morgan Stanley seems on board with the idea
I'm not an economist so I could be way off, but I think tariffs will play like market volatility (investors vs traders perspective). Is it generally bad for the US economy? Sure. But can some of them be worked to the advantage of a specific billionaire in a specific sector? That's the key question.
If he actually does what he says, it will be like a nuclear bomb. Everything will go up in price, a lot, almost instantly. Sales will plummet. There will be supply disruptions. If the costs aren’t passed on to the consumer, they’ll come out of corporate profits and the market will crash.
Oh I definitely don't expect him to do what he said, blustery over-hype is his brand, but I do expect some tariffs. Some with a purpose and some as distraction.
I think we can count on supply chain disruptions so I am focusing on stockpiling for myself, especially items that people tend to panic buy in cyclone season, and anything that the US influences like meds and fuel
There are days I am thankful that I am 77 and won't have to survive much more of this. But then I think of my children and grandchildren and I strengthen my resolve to continue and to fight.
Oh gosh yes. My online community sustains me. I need to do a better job of building local community though. Ideally before things go completely to hell.
Yea. And it's not always easy to build local ones, with people just being with their families, making separate bubbles and the whole it's who you know kind of thing.
Yep, the ones earnestly trying to protect us are getting thrown right under the bus by people like Schumer so they can continue to make common cause with far right Christian nationalists and other scum "for Israel"
Considering re-registering as "no party preference" to "send a message." I'll probably always vote Dem (never, ever 'the other') but my god, what an ineffectual bunch...
At least in CA, that's no longer the case! Folks should check with their secretary of state's office etc. to see if a modified closed primary system or similar law exists to let NPP voters vote in the primary of their choice. https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/political-parties/no-party-preference
I'm still voting for their candidates, because the alternatives are even worse, but I am so mad at them. Cowards. Capitulating, ineffective cowards. They are not up to the historical moment. It's fascism, guys. Fight back.
Yes, same and same. What a fucking waste of my time and energy they are though. Weak and spineless and throwing out OUR future so they can grab up more power. Hidebound fucking fossils playing shitty little inner-court games as our oceans burn.
I was thinking about that part last night. Pelosi is my rep and the whole CA Dem party down to the local level emulates her. Don’t expect CA to save us
I'm so sorry for all of you everyday California's and New Yorkers for what you have to deal with regarding the Democratic party apparatuses in your states.
It’s always surprised me that San Francisco in particular doesn’t have the reputation for corruption that other cities do. The city was built by grifters and the spin never ended
Same and maybe that's a good thing because we can stop lionizing any of these elected Democrats in Congress. That was a mistake that we made in the past and we need to stop it now.
I don't have to do any work this week because of my freelance jobs taking a break so I'm spending most of this week watching stuff on streaming and reading books that have no politics in them. Also exercising in my apartment workout room.
Time to get busy organizing! There is way more of us than them, and they fear us!! That is why they keep stirring up shit to keep us distracted. Start locally!!
I tried that for years and a bunch of dipshit men came snuffling around like a bunch of fucked up truffle pigs and got themselves credit for all my hard work and smeared me to boot. I'm done with that shit
I am so fucking tired of dipshit men (speaking as a, well, a dude, who does my fair share of dipshittery, just, you know, not that kind of dipshittery).
I’m hoping that my basic civil rights are at least maintained. I’d like to remain married to my wife and for my passport/drivers license to continue to reflect my actual gender, not what was put on my birth certificate. Worries about the economy are second to all of this.
Remember to stay focused on the little battles inside your communities. To dismay about the utter magnitude and totality of what may be will distract, depress, and demoralize. Seeds of rebellion must be nourished in small places first, before they grow onto something disruptive.
Outrunning birb flu? lol (maybe; we've outrun covid so far but UGH)
Dealing with the collapse of the US economy? lol
One of the neighbors calling the popo "hey, those guys had a Kamala sign up"? lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
With no gov support to the contrary, now I feel like there's going to be legit fresh water problems /within my lifetime/, and I tell you what, I am not ready for THAT.
Feel totally helpless about everything, and I'm fucking mad about it.
The only pleasure I anticipate for the next four years is watching the dipshits who voted for these criminals find out what it REALLY means for all of us.
Making the most of all my neighborhood & city networks and prepping, because we are totally on our own. We Blue dots must blend in here (amabalA), it's a feeling like trying to survive undercover in an imminent-natural-disaster zone
The wealthy elite may have loaded the weapon thru a decades long effort of subverting the will of the people, but we just pulled the trigger in November
Remember:
White males 60%
Latino males 54%
White women 53%
These are the demographics that voted by majority for Trump, billionaires, authoritarian rule, and white Christian nationalists
Time to Focus: We just need to complete 3 tasks in the next 4 years at local then national levels: pass #universalhealthcare, #maga 1950s tax rates and the banning of #privateequity ownership of hospitals, emergency rooms and nursing homes on their watch. #Republicans know they are on Life Support.
I do not need encouragement to "resist," people. I've done a shit-ton of work and will continue to do so. You're just going to annoy me by presuming I'm not.
The fact that any of us are still able to function at all is a show of strength At least we will not be the ones who just find out about this stuff when it starts happening Lots of people will shocked into freezing because its a normal trauma response. The anticipation sucks but its still a heads up

Thank you 😔
The fact there’s already a Civil War with the MAGATS gives me some relief.
"What kind of American are you?” militiaman Jesse Plemmons asks in "Civil War," killing those he dislikes.
"This is Trump's America now!" a rabid MAGA shouts, before trying to strangle a reporter he suspects of being "not American."
This IS the Real Donald Trump's America.

I should clarify...October weather BEFORE climate change accelerated.
Yep October in Chicago is the best time of year. \ humor
And I thought thunder snow was scary…
I honestly just want to feel like writing again.
Thank you so much for posting
Hell of a time to read that.
But it’s also rendering any sort of practical plan-making impossible, which is infuriating.
Build dual power outside of Ds and Rs.
Reboot America with women in charge™️

You are many.
When they fail, and they will...
Send a message.
No violence.
Civil disobedience.
The world is watching.
I am waiting for the ride to start and not in a good way.
It's not just the fear of it
it trying to figure out what to do to prepare for it so we can survive it. 😬😬😬🧢🧢🧢
