i don't want to downplay or write off how dangerous they are, but i truly don't think it's possible to have elected dumber people to the highest levels of government. like if they were any stupider they wouldn't want the job

they’re extremely dangerous because they’re extremely stupid, to the point where you can’t even put yourself in their headspace because your brain just can’t shut that much off at once
you get a sense of what it must have been like to be an ancient sun worshipper seeing your crops get fucked even though you did everything right in the ceremonies because nature is actually just chaos
The young people scuffling around DC talking about their secret dreams of being a senator are always freaks and it makes sense to me the successful ones turn out this way
Hollywood sold a lot of people on the idea of the "evil mastermind" when capitalism has had like maybe three of those guys total and every other asshole is just a jackass with a lot of money
Someone else pointed out what's different now v then is, seems like basic ambition of others used to drive these idiots out. Someone SOMEWHERE in congress slightly more competent used to say "hey, we're same team but they suck, I'm going to campaign on it"- instead they all sit there & do nothing
Yeah, for a while during the Cheeto Mussolini’s first term you had Matt Gaetz and his band of idiots. They were evil & not very bright but they managed to wield some power.
A handful of “moderate” (I know) Reps could have a huge amount of say in this congress, but they’re all afraid of their shadows
at this point i'm convinced all of white-power ideology is a race to find the stupidest, meanest, rapiest possible white guy and give him all the power in order to reassure yourself that the racial caste system is maximally anti-meritocratic
I think about this kinda thing a lot except in terms of like “these people are so stupid, how have they fallen into this grift and im working a 9-5 like a chump?!”
Their willful ignorance is as big a threat as any other facet of their horrible personalities. To learn is to admit that you don't know everything already, and that's something they refuse to do.
With the Nazis the evil overshadows the fact that a lot of the top brass were complete dipshits. Good at seizing power, sure. But like they screwed themselves at Stalingrad by giving some competent generals really stupid orders.
The irony here is that most of the people responsible for the worst atrocities were very well educated—three of the four commanders of the Einsatzgruppen in the USSR had PhDs. The people at the top of the NSDAP were mostly morons and losers though because it paid to be pliable and sycophantic.
