This is terrible news, but a good reminder that caving to the power structure won't save your job. Just months ago, Shogan was "sanitizing" history exhibits to appease Republicans.

@gamermd.bsky.social ...
Myself and others, we knew strangeness was going on in the US National Archives post election.
But to see the extent of how warranted the concerns are...
This Vichy France vibe by those who took an oath to protect this nation's cultural heritage...this is bloody distressing.
@joshmanning.bsky.social , I am not sure if you recall me mentioning that there was sus af strangeness behind the scenes at the US National Archives a while back, in one of your posts.
This is what I referring to directly, in how there was a highly disturbing level of "complacency" for months.
Okay, giving into the huuuugely ridiculous assertion...failing to educate the public on King and ensure his face is recognizable? That's a failure as public historians.
Isn’t this exactly what the 1st amendment was created for? Freedom of speech is freedom from government retaliation for that speech. Why isn’t everyone protesting in every street? We need some lessons from France for solidarity in protesting.
How did she go from “extreme partisan” hated by Republicans to doing their work for them? Thinking people wouldn’t recognize MLK? Come on. Removing history is, literally, the opposite of her job. I’m glad she’s gone.
FWIW I chaperoned a 5th grade class trip to the National Archives this week and the educational video they showed didn’t appear to have been sanitized. It was likely made in the early 2000s and it showed. But the information was good.
"Shogan’s senior staffers reportedly asked for proposed images of Civil Rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr. and Dolores Huerta to be switched out with photos of former President Richard Nixon meeting Elvis Presley"
It was so distressing to hear from people in the US National Archives, be in person or through their social media platforms (some hinted sus going on in their TikTok videos) of what was happening.
They were shaken that she, the one at the top, would go about doing so...since November, post election.
A lot of people learning the hard lesson that even Vichyesque collaborators are never safe. (Yes, Vichyesque is a real word because I want it to be a real word).
Buy hard copies of books -lots of history, science, politics, whatever your interests are. Do it before the books are banned, burned, labeled a “false narrative,” or rewritten to suit the new reich’s agenda. They will edit or destroy them all. It’s happening. We see it. Fahrenheit 451 is here. Now.
There’s also an element of factionalism/elite competition. Rubenstein has been fired as chair of the Kennedy despite being a GOP supporting billionaire. But he had a job Trump & his minions wanted and, tho he didn’t oppose Trump a la Cheney, he didn’t join the Trump faction. No foxholes to hide in.
The monster one knows. She worked hard to keep her job, denying Americans rights granted with the RATIFICATION OF THE ERA. She refused to register it in the Federal Register.
I guess she wasn't white washing the archives fast enough.

"Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns; why should we let them have ideas?" - Stalin
"To read too many books is harmful." - Mao Zedong
wow…
Epic fail
the contemporary nursing ecosystem obeyed several years in advance
That's a whole lot of yikes right there.

The times we are in are rhyming with history in the worst way.

Fight it since it's an illegal firing. But stay the hell away from archives and public history, Shogan. You proved you don't have what it takes.
