It's not working for me ;_; I tried siltering for "fox "news"" and "suckin' on flaccid floppy fascist dingalings" and it just returns nothing? (∩︵∩) Im sure it's great, maybe just not for my work. TY for sharing.
Yes. Let’s do the whole thing where we go back and see if we can find anyone who remembers him working there. Like they did to Kamala Harris and McDonalds.
I’m Gen X like him and we had to get work permits to work under 16 so I don’t know what he’s talking about. No one I knew picked berries for money. Wtf
I and half of my friends did in junior high. It was the summer job for kids too young to work at better ones. If you stuck with it into high school you got put in charge of the junior high crews and got to weigh the berry boxes instead of picking.
must be nice having berries & fields! I was three clearing jungle with a machete after my plane crashed in the amazon. eating bugs & animals & scaling trees for coconuts.
It's NOT the *government's* money! That's *The People's* money who pay taxes to fund the government!
WEALTHY CORPORATIONS & BILLIONAIRES are *sponging* off of US!
They get bailed out & get the BEST tax cuts, while the Average American pays higher taxes to support those cuts & corporate welfare.
I’ll never understand the logic of “hey, I had it bad, so you should too.” How is it rational to impose suffering on others just because you also had a (supposed) rough childhood? Compassionate people seek to end the suffering they endured, not spread it.
"Hey, I worked my way through high school...since before I was even 13 years old, I was picking berries in the field when my parents forced me to work illegally."
We were allowed to work in the fields in junior high - there were even buses that picked us up at the school bust stops to take us to the fields in the summer. I sincerely doubt he needed to save his summer money to pay for his lunches at his private school, however.
Either that, or he’s implying that part-time, minor-child-farm-labor-wage berry-picking income was enough to finance private high school tuition in the 1980s. Which is infuriating, whether it’s a bald-faced lie, or if it’s true.
Ah yes... The children yearn for the mines argument. While China and other countries ensure the education of their citizens we seem to always want to make it worse. Education is a right of the people and part of that is taking care of students at school, not using them as a backup labor force.
plus, I picked berries almost every day in June and July. My mom and many of her friends volunteered to work in our school's cafeteria to feed every single student really great food every school day. Picking fruit and school lunches are not related.
Hot take but I'll die by it. If you are actually old enough to remember not having child labor laws you're too old to work any job at all. I wouldn't even trust you with my French fries at McDonald's...let alone running my country. So if he's really that old he needs to go to the nursing home. 🤷♀️
We don't claim him. He's dull of shit. Most of my Gen X brethren in my own sphere are college educated an not assholes. Many of us are on the right side of history. Don't denigrate your allies with lazy labels.
For sure. For all their childhood freedoms, Gen X’s education as a whole demographic is v lacking. Few early X’ers went to college or university at 18. Huge amounts of childhood adverse trauma in this group as divorce soared, drugs flooded in, alcohol got cheap, etc.
Not to defend him, but agricultural labor laws are different. kids detassel corn. Oregon allows 9-year-olds to pick berries and beans with parental permission.
He's still a disingenuous shit-eating fuckhead who likely used his berry money to buy golf balls, not to feed himself or his family.
They are so full of shit when they talk about how they worked through school. Children need to be in school, fed and learning. Not getting exploited as cheap labor.
I worked all those jobs too. In the 50's, 60's and 70's. Those jobs don't exist anymore.
Kids shouldn't have to do that.
Their full time job should be going to school and learning.
I believe that all kids should have free nutritious
lunch and breakfast. This would eliminate the stigma of poverty.
"I was picking berries in a field"
You mean going out with your family one weekend in the PNW to forage wild Huckleberries which thousands of people do every year for fun?
I s2g rich people do manual labor of any kind once and act like they've been min-waged for 20 years.
My mom was a single mom after divorce. Thru my highschool years she had no help and with me now full-time it was a strain even tho she worked in medicine. These maga idiots lack any brain function
The Fair Labor Standards Act was passed in 1938 and Rich grew up in a wealthy family and went to private school. He didn't live before child labor laws and any work he did was for extra pocket money, not food.
kinda WHY we have child labor laws. Kids should not be picking berries in the fields just to afford school lunch. Well rested, well fed children learn better.
What fucking berries does this shit-for-brains think are in season in the upper Midwest in January that kids can pick on their way to school to bring for lunch?
Cold blooded ass people! God don’t like ugly! Just wait until these people ever meet their maker. They are killing everything to get these tax breaks for the rich smh
i drank ddt from the hose... my dad who was a coal miner put me in a cage whenever he went to the mine and if i died then he knew there was poison gas in the mine... i worked my way learning cuneiform at the temple of dagon before we had the alphabet
Hey! Fellow (former) midwesterner here who also detasseled corn when I was 12 & 13. I worked thru high school, too - for spending money, not to feed myself. These monsters are heartless.
Nebraska here.
Although I was out in Seattle for 12 years and now realize this is not “the Good life“
If only I could bust my family out of the Midwest
McCormick has three sons from his first marriage. McCormick's second wife, Debra Miller, is an oncologist. They separated in 2024. Shortly thereafter, Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne confirmed she and McCormick were in a relationship.
Federal Child labor laws wire pased in 1938 - 30 years BEFORE HE WAS BORN!
------
There is no mention of him picking berries in any of his biographies......
and yet Harris was attacked for not mentioning working at McDonalds.

We are in the day whatever the fuck you want stage because your constituents are as dumb as we’ve been planning on them being for quite some time. And still we are chipping away at public education.
Is this guy older than 87? If so, he should be hocking beauty cream and not hoaxing people with the “I worked before there were child labor laws,” which were established in 1938.
Well, we did. Red states have done much to end that. Right now it migrant kids. But once those kids have been deported, whose kids do you think will work in car factories and slaughterhouses? The kids who don’t go to school will.
The dude grew up in Vegas. He also cheated on his wife with another Rep, got written up for doing pull ups on the edge of the Capitol Dome, and often skateboards through Congress.
Reported to represent the wealthiest congressional district in Georgia, the man says fuck them kids, they pay or go hungry from Doral, Florida. Meanwhile, it costs less to buy two DVDs from Dollar General than it does to buy a dozen eggs.
Yeah I’m sure his kids are picking berries in fields gimme a break. Notice how he slips in a dis to child labor laws. It’s obvious what these republicans want for the future of our country is cheap labor with no protections and to cut off any childhood poverty prevention like food stamps and school.
“Hey,” didn’t labor laws go into effect in 1938, about 30 years before this guy was born and started picking berries when he was 13? While we’re at it, Rich, I’ve been paying into Social Security since I was 14 so let’s chat about that. & Hey, feed the kids. 🍕
Ok another orange tool spouting his woes so your the measure of brown and black Americans being profiled how about your project 2025 card in your wallet
The child labor laws he mentioned date back to...1939. Yeah, right, Rick, I remember the Lewis Hine pics of you, child laborer. Call him and ask him where his children work, why he is such a lawyer, and how he can be a medical doctor and say such crap.
Wow… don’t feed kids, so they’re forced to work for food.
Great ideas coming from GOP, we should probably also stop educating them, so they cannot get a higher wage. Oh, they’re already planning that…
I sat poolside and worked on my tan in the Connecticut countryside. And I know better all the way in my bones that he is a fucking asshole without a soul.
So.. He wants us to get rid of child labor laws.. So kids can afford to eat lunch? I wonder if he has his kids picking berries for their lunch? Out of hee just wants to punish poor kids for being poor

it's pervasive and a tale as old as time
Maybe we shouldn’t be trying to emulate his life, because he sure as hell didn’t “turn out fine”
There, fixed it for him.
actually start working after college and then get their Masters & doctorate years later.

With that in mind, you think they care about yours?
It's about how comfortable they've become being open about it.
Then Blame the Voters for hiring a traumatized man.

Me, too. Which is why I want kids to have free lunches at school. They shouldn’t have to do what I did.
