Trump on privatizing the postal service: "Not the worst idea I've ever heard ... it's an idea that a lot of people have liked for a long time. We're looking at it."

Sure pal. He's already completed negotiations to sub contract the U.S. Postal Service out to several corporate bidders just itching to get their grubby hands on those big, fat regular taxpayer subsidies.
Guess convicted felon/domestic terrorist has been propped up (again!) by his nazi klan of traitors and meds so he can spew more lies, bullshit and insanity.
He's a bigger moron than anyone's ever seen before. They're saying he's the biggest moron they've ever seen: A greater moron than they thought they'd ever see.
We are facing the choice of keeping Canada Post alive here in Canada. The greedy postal workers are forcing the issue here. Many Canadians would like to see this burden removed from our growing deficit. Sometimes Trump stumbles into a relevant issue. It doesn't mean he's smart or well intentioned.
Funniest thing about Trump and his shit is that if college educated big city blue state liberals were really trying to fuck over red states and low income low skilled republican voters they would create…Trump
Privatised postal service have proven to be more expensive. Privatised postal service will only at best, bring the service to new companies, whom themselves cannot guarantee delivery and efficiency. Though USPS, doesn't really have a perfect picture of delivery and efficiency. This is a gamble!
They have a bit of a constitutional problem, but that doesn't seem to bother them. SC will probably decide that clause no longer holds because the mail isn't delivered by horses anymore or something equally asinine.
Congress used the Postal Clause, Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 to help develop a modern postal system. SCOTUS recognized implied powers such as protecting the mail. The Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 & the constitution should protect this needed agency
You have Bernie Fucking Sanders to thank for this. He blocked two of President Obama's picks to the Postal Board so McConnell blocked the rest, so the board was vacant when trump took over in 2016 and he filled it with his own picks. The Board are the only ones who can remove DeJoy, not Biden.
Aside from the other notes posted in reply, all raising good points about Their dependent on USPS. But there's also one critical difference between USPS and Amazon: Amazon makes its profits from sales. Delivery is secondary.
USPS doesn't need to be profitable. It's a core service.
And let's not forget USPS finances would be fine, if they hadn't been forced to fully fund their pension fund for 85 years. It has been intentionally broken so privatization can "fix" it.
The idea that USPS finances would be “fine” is complete nonsense. Look at their revenue and volume trends over the last 18 years. Volume is down over 50% and revenues are up about 10%.
Question for clarification: You are saying that their profits are up despite decreased volume?
I personally don't expect a central postal system to be profitable. I do hope we get to a world where digital communication is widespread. But that requires publicly free wifi (which I also support).
Exactly. We need to subsidize those shipments in Amazon’s behalf so they don’t have to make that trip. It’s not possible for Amazon to stay afloat without our help. Trump is going to ruin that.
I do realize that. We get deliveries from FedEx, USPS, UPS, and Amazon at our suburban house. At another place, we only get USPS BMbecause it is so remote.
In the UK Amazon uses all delivery options: Royal Mail, UPS, Fedex, smaller local carriers like Evri/ Yodel.
You will not see "Amazon" delivery trucks coming to your house ever.
Also, privatising the Royal Mail was another UK mistake that we are about to compound by selling to a Czech billionaire
Not even close fella.
Amazon delivers to many households and will use the usps to deliver in many areas they can’t get to. Amazon was also built on the backs of the usps for years before they had their own fleet.
Prices will be jacked way up if privatized.
Amazon doesn’t deliver to numerous rural areas and regularly relies on USPS to complete such routes. Do you live in a hobbit hole or are you just that ignorant?
I worked for the post office, we delivered most of their packages. Amazon doesn't have the infrastructure that the post office spent 200 years building.
Maybe look up some information before posting. Amazon can't do it alone, and they constantly deliver packages to the incorrect address. Look at neighborhood posts looking for their packages. Geez, that IRS check must have been delivered to the wrong address!
Don't do it. Just take a look at how Britain has turned out after privatisation. It's a total shambles. Mail left undelivered for a week or more. Missed hospital appointments because of it. DON'T DO IT!
Waldorf: "Speaking of Trump, did you hear he said he’s going to protect women?"
Statler: "Protect women? Ha! Women don’t want to be protected by Trump—they want to be protected from Trump!"
Bad idea overall, but one silver lining: it would surgically and precisely screw over the rural voters who vote for Trump by Kim Jong Un margins, while screwing over the rest of us just slightly https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3ldgttpzryk22
Anyway, aside from tax cuts for billionaires (which all Republicans agree on), absolutely zero is going to pass Congress without Democratic votes, including the budget.
Trump was against privatizing the postal service when it slowed down mail in ballots by removing leased sorting machines but now he is for privatizing the postal service?
Will he remove all those sorting machines again before the 2028 election?
I've wondered the same thing myself. The American system is setup so only two parties can exist. It's designed so that any third party derails one of the other parties.
Europeans have solved the problem by having more than two parties. It takes more than 3 parties to form a coalition government.
His statements should be ignored completely. Don't give him an ounce of attention. He says shit to get a rise out of people, but he is too lazy to actually do anything that he threatens.
It’s always “a lot of people are saying” or “a lot of people are thinking” or “some people are saying” or “some people thinking”…which means I haven’t thought about it and I don’t really understand the issue at all. Deflection…
For some reason, this doesn’t strike me as a high priority issue facing the next administration. It definitely doesn’t seem deserving of this level of attention in the lead up to DT taking office. You know, like most of their agenda items.
How do you know someone is a greedy piece of 💩? they want to privatize everything and make the government a for-profit business because of #greedflation
This is how he floats the idea to see how much pushback it gets. This is going to be terrible for his supporters in rural areas, but would have a minimal impact on people living in cities.
not new. The GOP has been trying to bankrupt the USPS since Bush (the elder, I think) when they passed the law requiring the USPS to 100 capitalize the pension fund. No one else does that but interestingly, maybe postal employees will get their pensions when the rest of the pension funds fail.
Translation: He’s never heard this idea, he doesn’t understand the idea. He won’t implement the idea but will take credit for an positive results for implementing a plan he didn’t implement
Trump wants to kill postal service to rural America. Nobody is going to service your rural mailbox at any price. It’s not profitable
You will drive into town to pick up mail at a rented P.O. Box -and demand for those will skyrocket. Expect to pay an arm and a leg to participate in any mail service
Nobody likes the idea except the guy who currently runs it. Privatize it, then bury it, so his own private company can get the business. Right out in the open, no one even hides underhanded corruption anymore.
The only way to privatize the USPS is to hand it all over to a private company. There is no way any business could create an infrastructure equal to the USPS. One of many problems would be prohibiting the private workers from striking thereby delaying the mail.
The clown does not know his rural base depends heavily on the U.S. postal service. But then again, he does not care about them. He only cares about their votes.
Yeah, it takes a letter ten days to travel thirty miles in Missouri. A book from Australia seven weeks, including three days Customs. A book from Athens, GA, is three weeks.
Some greedy ass Inbred Billionaire owning the mail.
In other words, "We have no idea how to replace it. In fact, we're not really looking at anything, except to complain. Replacing anything with something better is very unlikely."
The Post Office is one of the few self-sustaining government operated entities. It's services generate the income needed to keep itself afloat without tax dollars. Why mess with it?
Now, it’s been a while since I read the Constitution, but if I remember correctly, the postal service was established as part of the federal government…
He'll go from looking at it strongly, then knowing more about the USPS than anyone else, then to concepts of a plan will be revealed in a couple weeks, then finally no one else knew how complicated it all is. All accordian to his handy big brain plan.
The USPS will cost more money if it's privatized. But as long as essential services like prisons, policing, healthcare, amd education aren't privatized, I'm happy.
MAGA Congress has always wanted to privatize government agencies.
The problem with USPS is it becomes a for-profit organization and prices soar. The problem with Social Security is investment advisors don’t work for free, take risks with our money and how much goes to the CFO and employees.
Thank Sinema and Manchin for the possibility of that happening. Since neither could vote to keep the current leader of the NLRB for.the next 5 years. So who he appoints to the position will surely outlaw unions both public and private. People will get what they voted for.
Didn't they try giving it all to FedEx around the same time Santorum was going to give the NWS to Accuweather? Turned out the average letter would cost over something like $4 to send! Sure, privatizing the profit and socializing the pain. They LOVE #Socialism!!
500,000 Americans, many of them vets, work for USPS & make good salaries +excellent benefits. Meanwhile people who live at the bottom of the Grand Canyon pay the same to get their prescriptions as those who live in NYC. The PO is a service that unites the country. FAFO how popular this service is.
Every time he comes up with an "idea," there's the obligatory lot of people who have liked it for a long time. Speaking of "long time"...the next four years are going to feel one hell of a lot longer than his first four. He's not even in office yet and he's been acting like he is since the election.
No one likes this idea except the profiteers who want to dismantle this non-profit service so they can swoop in and charge us all whatever the hell they want.
You know how back in the early 90s after the USSR collapsed all the countries Oligarchs swooped in and bought up all the public gov depts, and then the once publicly run businesses associated with that dept like power plants, steal mills and mining. Feels eerily like that in post election America rn
Yep, and all the flavours in between:
Everyone says that
Everyone knows that
We're gonna look at everything
We are looking at everything
We'll fix that day one, 'cos it is very easy to do
etc. etc
Just totally clueless and doesn't even bother pretending otherwise anymore
Yes, as it is his way of deflecting any responsibility. Just as in his conman time before the presidencies, this has always been his way. Never get committed to anything. I don't know why the press even bothers anymore...
At this point I wonder if his wedding vows were "We're looking into it."
Republicans who have tried to fudge mail in voting and throw mud all over it, now want to control it by giving one of his billionaire buddies the postal service.
Ding ding ding come on down Jeff Bezos.
This is all about election control not mail efficiency.
Every client of mine that is a boomer still mail checks for everything and constantly bitch about things never arriving or arriving late. They have no idea what’s coming
I agree ...I have not been inside a post office in ten years...times have changed...I might have mailed maybe 5 letters in the last 5 years...the only thing I get in the mail now are bills and junk even though I request paperless
I think he means a nationwide strike of postal services. Probably a superb outcome to this talk frankly the republicans need a solid good kick in the feedback ass.
Striking is illegal for Postal workers. So this isn't something they take lightly at all. I'm a former post worker, and my brief time there confirms what everyone is experiencing. They understaff and under resource these officers to make service slower so people begin to take privatization seriously
I suppose therefore the workers need to take privatisation seriously too as does everyone else. What's the real legal ramifications of an all out strike. These are serious times and serious times require serious action frankly.
It is ABSOLUTELY the worst idea. Government agencies and services are not designed to work on a for profit basis. What is next; the military, the State Department, the FDA? GMAFB.

Anything that can be used to fix elections will be altered from now on..
The country's going to
go postal
with this nano-brain.
FUCK NO!!!
Trump is such a complete utter moron.
I'm just quoting trump but it seems relevant!!!
If the GOP wants it done then it'll move forward and Trump will withhold until he knows the political winds.
“[The Congress shall have Power . . . ] To establish Post Offices and post Roads;...”
DJT insists he can easily change parts of the Constitution
This shit is disgusting at this point.
Good.
4 years of Biden lies got us another Trump term and probably the last US election ..ever.
Literally impossible.
Say goodbye to mail.
Thanks Trump! Ugh!

I think the single time I had an Amazon-branded driver was when I ordered both an exercise bike and its assembly service.
You will not see "Amazon" delivery trucks coming to your house ever.

We need to publicly subsidize Amazon otherwise how will rural people be able to afford it?
That’s stupid af
Amazon uses usps to deliver to remote areas
Wow, you got ratioed
Maybe delete your embarrassing post
And also apparently in black neighborhoods.
Your example is evidence against the point you're trying to make.
https://www.scrippsnews.com/us-news/washington-says-amazon-secretly-stopped-fast-deliveries-to-2-predominantly-black-zip-codes
Do you know how much Amazon packages would cost if it wasn’t subsidized by tax dollars?
We NEED it. Trump is going to dismantle our country piece by piece.
Plus, no way they would deliver a first class letter to Bumfuck, Montana for less than a dollar.
Statler: "Protect women? Ha! Women don’t want to be protected by Trump—they want to be protected from Trump!"

Europeans have solved the problem by having more than two parties. It takes more than 3 parties to form a coalition government.
That is why I am sure the Republican strategists were furious when the Supreme Court repealed Roe v Wade.
It removed their wedge issue they had used for decades.
The economy was good and Democrats owned the military.
All they had left were trans kids and immigrants.
One clue, he's an overweight, orange conman who should be in prison right now.
#VoteBlue if we ever get another chance.
Trump is already throwing away The US Constitution before he even takes office.
Very UN-American of Trump
It's up there with the: "...like no one has ever seen before"
What a dumbass 🙄
Which we turned on because the President is supposedly making an announcement about the Labor movement.

What is he doing? He has new powers now, what is he doing to safeguard Americans?
What is the DOJ doing? How's those investigations into Trump going?
What's going on here!?
The raw sewage coming out of his brain and mouth continues, and the tepid media fawns over "access" to it...
Some greedy ass Inbred Billionaire owning the mail.
Their politicians work only for their donors, on both sides.
But it's going that way, same here in Canada, our gov't just like Biden did, forced our striking Canada post workers back to work.
Going against our charter.
I hate this.
"Shit, I don't know. I didn't do my homework and I don't have to because you dumbasses voted for me anyway."
🫠
“I have a concept of a plan.”*I can fix everything. I’m a f*cking useless moron.* 🙄
