Housing is so so scarce here. That’s what makes it hard to live here. But this time I’d leave to move to another part of California or maybe WA or OR. I don’t want to leave the west again.
San Francisco was a lovely place when I saw it. That was several times decades back. It’s now made up of very wealthy people, and that drives all others out. What’s the point in comparing the rest of the US with a place now tainted by greed?
This is why states need to force all taxes to pass thru state hands first - and only deliver to the feds if they are following the constitution. States ratified it - now they need to help enforce it is the law of the land!

Great place to grow up in circa 50-70s, me thinks. Great K-12 education, diverse, liberal, but cosmopolitan, suburbs(post WWll) & rural/ag living available to enjoy. Ports, airfields, temperate climate, so many favorable traits. Beaches, trails, has it all.

I understand the issue of housing inventory and pricing, but I think you’re mixing up the new home vs resale market. Regardless, the demand and sales prices of single family homes have outpaced most of the U.S.
The supply is still the same. The problem is new houses aren't being built because home owners associations want their houses to keep rising in value. We call them NIMBYs.
It's a multifactorial problem. Zoning and NIMBYs are part of the problem. So are the real estate companies that are bigger than ever. And unlike the 2008 crisis they will not go away all at once, since that would require someone to default which isn't a risk here. They're just hoarding trillions.
Tech bros are a very small percentage of the SF Bay Area population and a very small percentage of tech bros are incels. The SF Bay Area is mostly hard working people and families. Please don’t stereotype.

Ive long thought that Federalism is out of date as long as most states are utterly dependent on the federal government and the economic strength of states like California and New York. Not only are states like Montana over represented. They don’t deserve to be states. They should be annexed by CA
