"Our political system" is what we allow it to be. The Laken Riley Act mattered. Cabinet appointments matter. If someone (Warnock, for example) is going to vote with the republicans 90% of the time, he's going to lose anyway. Talk about not understanding the political system

The theory as D operatives explain it to me is key votes that matter are for leadership and control, 2/3 votes etc. So having a fickle D, even a Manchin, is better than Rs with a supermajority. There is also a custom that most nominees are approved, barring immorality/incompetence.
