No I would not broadly label criticism of Israel as anti-Semitic, I don’t think I said anything like that. Some pro-Palestinian protests include people with antisemitic views, as you’d expect when a lot of people with different agendas come together.

Speaking as a faculty member: students can be harsh and thoughtless. In protests they can take overly dramatic positions and repeat slogans without thought. But the way to change that is to allow the speech and engage it critically. The politicization of these events forecloses the potential. 1/2

2/2 I’ve had students make racist, misogynist, antisemitic and anti-Islamic claims in class so I know there are students with these beliefs. But I have seen students change their rhetoric when challenged by peers in the relative safety of classrooms. Complexity gets lost in demonstrations.

Agreed, but I'm concerned for the everyday safety of my kids at work and grandkids at school. It's become unclear who's making antisemitic remarks to them, and quite devastating when they realize it's people they considered friends and allies in progressive spaces

Antisemitism isn't political. It predates the existence of political parties by centuries. This idea that one side or type of antisemitism is "worse" — or even that it can be conveniently divided into factions — is a complete misunderstanding of how antisemitism functions in the Western mind.
