It might! The moon acts as a stabilizer on how the earth rotates, so if that disappears, we can potentially get things like one pole pointing towards the sun, which means one side will get baked, and the other side frozen.

I think we can agree that upsetting the balance of a solar system one way or another is very, very unlikely to lead to something good. At least for the creatures already living in it.
