The heatpump is an engineering solution. What you want, you can buy.
I try and cycle to work, but if it's -5 outside then I'll go in the car. It's still better than driving every day.
Keeping even 40GW of gas plant idle for 95% of running hours is not actually a big cost drag at a system level.
