There is not only thebm followers but the ecosystem you build to have interesting conversations takes months/years to be built. The fact that rules change on the fly is a characteristic of social media.
There is a feature of Twitter that no other ways of communication you cite has. A tweet is essentially an open letter to the world. You have no idea who is going to read and react to it.

There's lots of ways to keep in touch with people that doesn't hit your endorphins repeatedly or spread misinformation and amplify far right-wingers.
