Deep dive into user data settings. There's a ton its taking from you and throwing these ads at you based on that. Took me a while to find everything and shut it off. All quiet since then.
Just file a complaint that it’s disrupting your workflow. Or better yet, say you were on a client meeting and doing a screen share and it popped up. Very embarrassing.
The first thing I do on a new w11 install is run this debloating script. https://github.com/Raphire/Win11Debloat but yes the user experience in w11 is really bad.
Just enable the RPM fusion repos, because they give you some access to non open source stuff. Then look how to install onlyoffice on Fedora. You can then decide if you want to donate to the KDE dev team. Telemetry is opt in, but privacy is respected.
Because, all work and no play makes for a full day. Nah but that does kinda suck... But if you haven't bought it or subscribed to #XGPass... They're hoping you will when you get off work.
This shit is my favorite with MS honestly. You’d think that people would figure it out, but CTOs are unwaveringly convinced that MS will save them from all their problems.
While at the same time they ram copilot down your throat, and charge 50% more for the privilege.
It's all about marketing and nothing else. 95% of windows you'll never use and it's still based on original DOS at it's core. It should have been rewritten from scratch so it could've been a modern OS.
NT 3.1 is as far back as it goes, at least publicly anyway. NT 3.1 doesn’t use DOS and was designed for 32-bit systems specifically as a modern operating system
AFAIK Microsoft had some licenses to include specific third party software in “Windows 3”. That’s why they milked that hard and NT was launched as a 3.something
I guess these days Minesweeper and Solitaire just don't cut it.
I guess it depends on how it's configured, if it's on a corporate network usually that sort of stuff is disabled, but otherwise Microsoft just don't seem to mind dishing out adverts or widgets.
girl I can't even change the desktop background on my work computer let alone install anything, my work PC is a panopticon it is literally impossible for me to do anything other than use office suite programs and the work specific software
I’ve got a Chromebook from 2014 that has makes the same sound as x-wing from Star Wars when I try and boot up papas pizzeria on cool math games. If you want it for two bananas and a jolly rancher we can get a deal done.
11 is so intrusive, it's becoming difficult to implement mission critical things that require one way out and nothing in. Unfortunately the two main apps I need to use are windows only.
why? Microsoft didnt have a better os than any of the unix vendors, ibm let them make the os for their computers because of antitrust, and them specifically because gate's mom was on the board of ibm. They then used that market position to force their other products onto companies.
My work PC notifies me on every login that my firewall is disabled, but the firewall settings AND firewall notification settings are both disabled for users. Sisyphean
Maybe they trying to get you to procrastinate… work smart not hard 🤣. In seriousness, windows 11 feels so bloated with all the pop ups and things that happen on there 😩.
I just have had nothing but bad experiences with our IT support. They're through a contracted company who then subcontracts their actual agents. I avoid contacting them except as a last resort
I mean it's still miles better than Windows 10. I had Windows 10 fuck up two of my laptops. One I had to factory reset, and the other one is currently fucked because a update messed it up. I need to replace the sound board on it too, and then once that's fixed I'm installing Linux on it lol.
I got one of those yesterday. Had to pay big dollars to be advertised to. That's not okay. If you want to advertise at me, give me the product for free.
It’s from the Xbox app. The last windows update changed it so it now auto-launches again and repeatedly throws this up. There’s a setting to disable these ads too but Microsoft ignores it for their ads 🤦♂️
No shade to your IT crew, assuming there is one, but you definitely shouldn't be getting ads on a corporate windows 11 license. I'd never use it at home but win11 works absolutely fine for my work machine. Definitely no ads.
Reading this I'm so glad that the computer I just built last year with all new components continues to give me the message that it is not compatible with Windows 11
Because your employers it didn't clean up all the oem crap ware. That isn't windows doing that. My win11 on personal or Corp devices never did any such thing
It's a #windows OS. #Microsoft is going to push ads like crazy within #windows to make more profit, doesn't matter if it's a standard home version or pro version.
Microsoft product wants you to buy another Microsoft product, or pay more to not have ads encouraging you to buy more Microsoft products, because one of the world’s most valuable companies doesn’t have enough money yet.
YES. I saw this a few weeks ago and it pains me that I would get an advertisement on my desktop and not in the typical browser ad fashion. It's insane if that will be the standard going forward.
Even basic stuff works terribly. Sometimes my File Explorer right click menu has a load time…on a brand new gaming PC. Microsoft needs to chill on the UI updates at the cost of UX.
I wrote a tool for myself to rapidly reconfigure computers to turn that shit off as well as several other features I hate. You can check it out if you want. Https://www.jeremyduffy.com/paneless
How is it that these things never happen to me? Is it the Windows version (home/pro)? Is it not allowed to show ads where I live? (Netherlands) Or is it just that the notification comes from something else, like steam?
Same reason your iPhone does?
Everything comes stuffed to the gills with ads these days. Users have to turn everything off, uninstall crap and opt out of everything. It’s exhausting.
I'm genuinely confused about people having ad problems with Windows 11? I have been using Windows 11 on every Windows device I have that supports it since the OS launched and the only times I've ever gotten ads were for Xbox game-pass and MS365 during setup. For me it's just been Win10 but prettier.
thank god im still using windows 10. im never switching. i dont need that offline ai shit logging my every keypress and reporting back to windows about what im saying and thinking. imagine if i had a patent idea, they could just steal it. do the right thing. downgrade to vista.
TenCent. if you haven't heard of them look up how they are manipulating Microsoft, who they are, where they're from, and why you should hate them. essentially they're trying to bring TenCent and Microsoft together. i for one have had enough of these shadow corporations influencing america.
Truth! The amount of advertisements built into the operating system that people already paid for is mind boggling. And no, I am not paying MSFT for its cloud services no matter how many times it tells me its part of setting up my computer…
Because they promoted the asshole who said, lets make solitaire a subscription, to head up their own department of making people hate the OS even more.
Because whoever set it up, didn't turn off the setting that allows ads. Call tech support maybe? But not sure if they know how to configure regex. So watch out.

Put a ticket into the help desk before you start buying cars for people you don't know...

on the other hand, i also had to submit an internal ticket to turn off “xbox game bar” launching at startup on my own work pc… just windows 11 things

At its core, Windows 11 is 10, which is 7, which is vista, which is xp, which is 2000, which is NT4, which is NT 3.1

Harvest all your data
Push ADs for you to buy more crap
Give you less freedom of what you do with the OS
I LOVE WINDOWS!!!*
*/s
The machine is back on my bench, in another boot loop.
W11 IS TRASH.
I don't understand why, Even When I debload windows to a maximum stage without breaking it.
Considering that we have to pay for a license to be served ads, i think that doesn't make sense at all
to be fair all ive installed is some games from non microsoft sites
It shows up i the lower right corner?
If so try and reset you browsers.

I think #windows 12 is going to be worse.
