Green was defending Medicare and Medicaid. Seems a tad more important than eggs. And these Dem electeds think people online are out of touch? Primary season is going to be wild.
Democrats may emphasize the greatness of Slotkins carefully prepared and proper response. But it pales in comparison to Al Green's actions. Al Green did what many want their elected officials to do. Hold Trump and his administration in contempt for harming the American people and their country.
Dems haven’t managed to sure up and gop votes to stop Trump. No! It appears instead the gop has surged up some dem votes to give themselves a bigger margin. wtf democrats ! Even with logic decency and humanity on your side you can’t pull this off ??
They didnt get more Dem votes. A large group of people decided they didnt care because “theyre all the same” which is BS. The 2 parties are not the same.
Apparently, far left wants to create their own chaos left-Maga style. I think Green should be treated like any other congressman. It shouldn't be "oh, he's in my party so can get away with anything". Green went too far. We can't allow congress to devolve like that. Neither should we behave like Rep.
That’s fair but if we’re going to treat him like any other congressperson then this should be a 2 day story with a couple of news hits and then fade into obscurity with no repercussions.
Oh so they do know how to drive a narrative or create a spectacle, just agains their own people. Shame.
This happened two days ago, senators have to go hat in hand to get exemption for government funding and cancelled contracts, there’s still 25% tariffs, but sure let’s do this instead
If Democrats were unified protesting Medicaid cuts would have taken the spotlight not Al Green. They threw him under the bus to capitulate. Feckless cowards.
Will is happy to believe Axios anonymous “quotes” and pretend these represent what Democrats in general think. Social media rewards attacks on Democrats
Every politician coming out of North Carolina is some variant of smooth-brained, deranged conservative. D or R, they are adjacent nodes in a purely conservative spectrum.
Liberal, socialist and communist revolutions were comically the same.
Despite all the planning and rhetoric, all of these opposition groups got caught by surprise by popular movements and had to improvise to catch up to claim credit, only to be clowned on during the process.
You're the one obsessed with egg prices. Egg prices are part of Dem messaging, but they are far from all of it. Dems are speaking out about corruption, lawlessness, Ukraine, social security, Medicaid...I could go on. Why are you letting the thread you don't like capture so much of your attention?
It was NEWHOUSE who proposed this censure — one of the only Republicans to keep his seat after voting to impeach Trump??? Guess he’s still trying to suck up.
Embarrassed Washingtonian here — of both our two GOP Congressmen AND Democrat @glusenkamperez.house.gov who voted to censure Green.
What you need to understand is that Democrats love to talk about this nonsense because it’s SAFE. Egg price messaging doesn’t touch on any kind of controversial political value, it barely requires you to disagree with the president, it’s specifically selected because it’s politically inert.
I've lost the thread here. What do you think *will* turn Americans against Trump? Surely you don't think it's the "threat to democracy"? If that's the thinking, I urge you to dig into this morning's @nytimes.com op-ed about how the pandemic changed us. I fear "democracy" isn't a winning argument.
I'm still digging through the op-ed, but the gist is the pandemic made us meaner, more self-absorbed individually, and as a society, less empathetic to others, less willing to believe gov't does or even *can* work for the collective good, less trusting of institutions. Less invested in "democracy."
Yeah. I grew-up in Reagan's America. It was a meaner time, but you could, obv., go back even further to cite the beginnings of those trends, e.g., Nixon's Southern Strategy and the "Silent Majority" concept. Still, we've been trending in a better direction for a while now. MAGA is a severe reaction.
What I have learned so far about Americans is that most of them have zero empathy and only think about money. I work with one of them. He is complaining about prices going up after gleefully voting for Trump. Only small % care about democrazy.
Sadly, I agree with your assessment. We will change back toward empathy, but it'll take a long time, and this clearly isn't the moment where that change will take place. Here's that op-ed.
Striking at the heart of the opposing branding is just another way to agree with the branding. It precludes things like attacking Republicans for being mask-off Nazis because a lot of them just happily own that as their brand anyway
By "preclude" I mean if *everything* has to be egg prices because that specifically gets at a Republican argument. I'd much rather the focus be on why Republican priorities themselves are wrong
That Schumer response wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it could have been deployed against many politicians throughout history; it completely fails to grapple with the extent to which Trump isn't just bad, but TRULY EVIL. We need Hitler comparisons, stat.
You are letting a right wing media and clout seeking social media "influencers" spin you. Here's the official D. response to the Trump rant. I don't agree with everything in it - but it doesn't have an exclusive focus on eggs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOhepiFVQTo
I think talking up egg prices are fine. Whats it fine is doing it at the exclusion of everything else and turning it into the sole message of importance.
I was responding directly to the point in the quoted article that what Green did was bad because he became the story “not the price of egss” and that is a shit way to think about politics at the moment.
I'm surrounded day in and day out by die hard maga people. They laugh at all of the egg talk. They know it's the dumbest shit ever and yet these strategists keep pumping out the egg talk like its some sort of gotcha moment. they have turned into the nazi party but yea, lets keep talking eggs
Yes. They know Americans are very very selfish with zero empathy. Only a small % doesn't care about egg prices. You are only thinking from your perspective.
I think our time would be better spent attacking the media that won't care for democracy and calling for a new pro democratic press outlet.
I promise, GOP isn't any braver than Dems (just look at R senators!), but they have the media for cover.
No joke, I think Dem leadership is dissociating. Nothing in their carefully curated careers has prepared them for this. They don’t have a clue what to do so they just shut down and rebooted in safe mode
Sure, take a strong position and you step on the toes of another constituent group of the DNC. And while the Tech Billionaires have abandoned the party, their shadow lingers.
It's the same folks who coached Tim Walz from: "these guys are weird as hell" to: "I think there was a lot of commonality here" between his nomination and the VP debate.
Maybe the dumbest thing about this is that the price of eggs will likely go down again at some point, and Trump has basically nothing to do with it. So they’re setting themselves up for a midterm where their argument is “Egg prices” when they may not even be that high by then.
It's truly the dumbest most ineffective way to message on this point. Knowing that Trump won bc people blamed Biden for high COL is where strategizing against Trump starts but cannot be where it fucking ends.

But, I DO think they'll revolt when he takes away their Social Security cheques that allow them to buy those eggs.

Lets see how willing Europe is to work with them in 2026 and beyond.
To be fair, that matches historic trend of opposition parties being out of touch with the populace.
Euromaidan was pretty much the same, the opposition parties were completely out of sync with mass protest movement.
Despite all the planning and rhetoric, all of these opposition groups got caught by surprise by popular movements and had to improvise to catch up to claim credit, only to be clowned on during the process.

Outside the beltway, egg prices matter more than lots of political issues.
Egg prices matter so much certain newsrooms seem to have ordered their journalists not to talk about it.
What's wrong with you people?

"He has already blown up a lot in other peoples' faces and he's only a few weeks in."
Serious question. They could also believe GOP will let them join the Trumpian empire as long as they fall in line.
