If you don't know what the right answer is, AI will often lead you down the wrong path. It will do so with so much confidence that you'll never know it was just making shit up.
I was taught in grade school that those wrinkles are part of the mechanism that keep the testicles at the proper temperature? Is men Botoxing their balls like that Tucker Carlson sunlamp thing?
That reminds me we were supposed to get Harriet Tubman on the $20 by 2030 and I am 100% sure now that will get cancelled for "DEI" which would be horrific
She was truly an incredible person
Everyone should read her wikipedia page at a minimum
so I noticed a Hallucination today involving 3 people
Howard Hughes, Howard Hanks, and Gary Cooper. Well the google hallucinated for 1 and 2 worked together, 2 and 3 worked together, and 1 and 3 slept together
and since 1 and 2 are both named Howard google collapsed the widget
I mean... It doesn't understand anything. You get very fluent responses by doing statistics on a whole lot of words but it doesn't get you answers. The only time it's responses work as answers is when enough of the data corresponds with the correct answer.
I think the issue is that on the technical side of it LLMs are under this umbrella of "AI" research and the ppl pushing it are happy to market it as such, but the public seems to think this shit is skynet when there's actually no intelligence involved
The worst type are these monolithic generative AIs like Google is using, that use a single neuro-net to go from text prompt to a formatted text summary of information in it's database.
They are inefficient, inaccurate and prone to hallucinations.
A proper design would convert a text prompt to a regular expression with a small LLM. Run a sanity check, then feed the expression to a conventional keyword search. Grab the results of the keyword search, and use a second specialized LLM set to summarize and format them.
Instead, they just feed the whole database to an LLM and expect it to handle the text input and feed an output in something like autocomplete on steroids.
This results in a ridiculously huge algorithm where it is surprising that the thing works at all.
Always keep in mind AI was created by humans (mostly white men) and therefore implicit biases are built in. There are several studies about this. AI is shit. Go to the library, friends!
AI doesn't "understand" anything. It uses a bunch of mathematical statistics on ingested data and spits out the highest % hits. Of course the data is any old thing off the internet, so of course it's very random.
Shrewsbury NJ Friends' Meeting (aka Quaker church)
has a trapdoor under the seating area that was used to hide people during the Underground Railroad.
Congregation's been meeting there since the 1600s,
though the building's from the 1800s (after a few fires.)
I'm sure the new history books/trump bibles Oklahoma is getting will have illustrations of Harriet Tubman in a conductor hat with the caption, "All aboooard!"
"Oh, we need access to everybody's protected materials to make our AI as good as it can be!" Google has access to damn near every piece of information on the planet and it's still a dumpster fire!
"To be fair, when I was around 10 years old, I thought it was a literal underground railroad.
We toured one local mansion that was a stop on the underground railroad, and I was so disappointed when they showed us where they hid the escaped slaves, and I didn't see any rails..."
Any mention of black history is being removed from search engines because Donald hates history he did not write.
Donald wrote executive order banishing black history month in February.
An illegal executive order is still illegal.

Over the past 2 years all search engines have become deeply unusable. Google, bing, the duck, nothing works anymore. They all suck as a means of finding info, I've been relying way more on reddit and discord.

Which is insane because Google’s newer LLM’s are actually good, this just makes them look like shit and it’s risky for their company
I don’t get it
Because of this, the system is highly biased toward giving an incorrect response instead of saying “I don't know.”
is
Hilarious!

ironic since Hanks created this famous movie
Though I haven’t tried the other 😂
well that's my day ruined
What's her name?

Why do you think she eats glue: To numb the cringe.
LLMs are not particularly advanced, and not particularly good at many of the things they are trying to have them do.
They are inefficient, inaccurate and prone to hallucinations.

Now they should update the song: Statistical Word Salad is a great song title
Sure the search result algorithm is a piece of crap, but at least I don’t have to be forced to look at an often incorrect AI generated summaries.

More specifically, it's garbage for the things they are trying to use it for.
Monolithic Generative AI models belong in the trash heap.
Some, we captured with screenshots. One, where ChatGPT informed us that astronauts had played with cats on the moon,we missed capturing.
These "hallucinations" make AI untrustworthy.
Our advice would be: Question & Verify.

Gemini, especially, is painfully dumb.
