Donald Trump has just released a national under 18 trans care ban executive order. I am working through specifically how it tries to do this, and will live tweet here section by section as I read through it.

It is not yet on the website, but has been released via press release.

There's no actual BAN in the text that I can see, just a threat to cut off federal funds to any institution offering care to under-19s. Not sure if he can even do THAT by EO, but there certainly isn't a BAN on trans care for minors in the order.

Serious question: I understand these decisions may be reversed by the courts. BUT because SCOTUS said Trump is immune for official acts, can’t he just keep breaking law after law (basically to see what sticks) without any consequences? He can tie the fed govt up in lawsuits forever

We are not a dictatorship now. Trump is not a dictator or a king, though he may desire it. The law still matters. Maybe not as much or as quickly as we'd like, but the law isn't *irrelevant*.

You still fight. Even if the Sp.Ct. backs this (and it's not clear they will), you work through your state and local governments. Calling Trump a dictator gives him power. Don't do that. For now he's just the president and subject to (some at least) the law.

Because the courts still exist, are still operating, and have already acted on some of the orders. It doesn't mean not being preparing to deal with that mechanism failing, but as long as the system exists and hasn't caved to him its part of the toolbox.

I trust our clinic to keep providing care. I do NOT trust that our insurance will approve Lupron. Thankfully my 18yo is keeping their phone on airplane mode and not checking the news. Although they did mention a “royal edict” (much more apt than EO) that says they don’t exist 😭
