i've already personally run into one of those weird predatory websites that writes fake LLM-generated obituaries for real people. One of them totally fooled my boss about this guy we knew (missing but body not found). I can't imagine what seeing those things does to the families.
hello dear (robot voice) LOVED ONE. i miss you here in heaven! (robot voice) TRIAL SOFTWARE EXPIRED. $500 FOR BUSINESS LICENCING IS A GRrRRREAttttt Deeeeee EEAL
There needs to be a huge class action lawsuit on AI to rein the usage in. Or at least some legislation put forward that is equitable for everyone. Capitalism isn’t very fair though 😢
If I had lost someone and found out AI was used to write their obituary or anything similar, I would not be responsible for what I did to whomever did that.
Most of what I'm seeing is people trying to use AI for things it's not ready to do and failing. I think the best way to deal with AI is to go ahead and use it and demonstrate all of it's limitations. AI will get better quickly, but management needs to know where it DOESN'T work today, so show them.
companies are also making these horrid little QR code medallions you affix to graves with command strips and take you to a memorial page when scanned which i guess is fine in theory but like. what about when this company goes under in 18 months. what happens to the link
It’ll probably be like the URL shorteners and go to porn, because the domain expired and was purchased at auction. The 1812 commemorative site on my car’s license plate goes to an online casino now
There are all these useful bits of Web 1.0 (or I guess this is first gen 2.0 before the money arrived), and maybe if we promote them more that will be good? Better than losing them, for certain.
"Whaaaaat? No one wants to do it. we give that chore to the most junior writer on staff. THIS is the perfect use case for Ai. Doing the work of juniors so seniors can do advanced work."
'Uh huh. Say, just how do juniors actually BECOME seniors without experience?'

what is the point of a headstone other than to very visibly display this exact information in the first place
