unironically i think we could have prevented a lot of this by not letting anyone hold any of the highest offices in the country unless they can pass the united states citizenship civics test, at minimum

I told my highschool school civics teacher this once then he cited Reagan and called me ignorant he's probably dead now but I'd gloat on his grave if I could
Everything the working poor needs is means tested but the abilities of those seeking, to be frank, the office with the greatest global influence/power are not tested at all. It's ABSURD (but not unexpected)
Politician boot camp which is just a studio apartment for two months on a fixed stipend and you gotta do all the appointments and bills yourself/renew a car registration/open close accounts/buy a phone/cook your own dinner.
honestly I think Canadian PMs having to debate in French accomplishes this
you can have bad French and still win but there are probably a lot of chuds who don’t even consider running because they don’t want to have to learn a foreign language
I think the real test should be if they're capable of empathy. I'm not kidding. It seems like such a basic thing, but too many people lack critical emotional intelligence to be in positions that oversee the care of others. Having governmental intelligence is also a must, but empathy is important.
I once helped a coworker from Ireland study that test and those questions are not difficult but require exhaustive familiarity with your country history and founding documents and I was simultaneously amazed and horrified that earning citizenship hinged on an ersatz pub trivia game.

We should be asking Anubis for his weighing scale

He was terrific (aside from the occasional knifemissile attack on American citizens)
I wonder if it’s actually rooted in misogyny?
